This set went from concept to order in 24 hours.. so a little less monkeying around vs my other sets.
Always wanted to do a Donkey Kong themed set - "Jungle Japes", and also have always loved the Mapes chips. Donkey Kong 64 and Goldeneye 64 (hence the Casino Royale set) were the two games that I feel like defined my childhood, so the crossover with the Mapes felt perfect. I did dial back Donkey Kong theming - in the end just wanted chips that just felt like they could exist in the universe. That said didn't realize @Darson did something similar with his Hotel Apes - but think we went different enough and his set still stands up well on its own - please check his out too!
Design-wise, I wanted there to be a progression even though spots were all the same, so went with monochromatic tones on the low end to more contrasting colors with the upper denoms. I didn't relook at the mapes chips when designing to make sure they didn't influence, but seems like I still landed at a similar 5k anyway. The only chips that were "inspired" though were the 25 (leaves), 1k (banana), 25k (jungle/banana tree).
I also did purposefully make the gorilla somewhat look like an "M".. wanted it to read as Mapes or Apes. Alright, too many words..
Breakdown (3-table T25-base set, thanks @BGinGA):
240 x T25
240 x T100
120 x T500
240 x T1000 (includes 30x for T25/T100 color-ups)
150 x T5000 (includes 12x for T500 color-ups)
10 x T25000 (for T1000 color-ups if needed)
