Hey guys. I’m looking to add one denomination to these, to make a single table tournament set more playable. 12/12/7 stacks will allow for a 5k freezeout, which is fine. But if I wanted to make bigger starting stacks or allow for rebuys or addons, I’ll need another denom.
So the two big questions are what to use, and what denomination to make it.
My original thought was to use a plaque. Having a plaque for the big denomination in a tournament set makes plenty of sense. But I think I’d want an oversized plaque, since the chips themselves are pretty oversized. So that raises the question:
Who makes oversized plaques with a low (60-80) minimum?
I’ve emailed Sunfly and gotten no response. But, do those ship out of China? What are the minimums? CPC advertises plaques in the same sizes as Sunfly - are they just a middleman? Bro only lists the small credit card size plaques on their site - do they go bigger?
And what’s the deal with MSK in terms of pricing and minimums - is that even an option?
Also, are ceramic plaques any good? The only plaques I’ve handled are Matsui. Which are amazing. While I’d certainly be interested in Matsui or Matsui style plaques, availability and budget may force me to consider ceramic. Who’s handled them? I can only imagine them feeling cheap and clanky, but please, let me know.
The next option, which I can’t decide if I love or hate, would be dealer button sized ceramic. It’s part giant chip, part round plaque. It would be a reasonably priced, easy option. But seriously, I can’t decide if I love it or hate it.
WHAT DENOMINATION?
I’m leaning toward 2k plaques. FWIW, I hate the 2k denomination, not that I’ve ever played with it. It just feels a little too clever? But I think it might make sense with this set. I guess the biggest question I have with this is how well a 2k will play with only 5 or 7 T500 chips in each stack?
I think that might be the only option, though. The next obvious candidate would be a T1k. But I’d need to buy twice as many, which would be expensive. And it would also make them less “special” if each starting stack had 5-6 of these big plaques. And T500 to T1,000 isn’t very efficient.
Please share any and all thoughts.
Thanks!
