Inlays and Gear custom labels - How do dey look like? (1 Viewer)

The $5 Fabulous Las Vegas chip has the same edge spot colors.

Sure it does. The GC Hinckley/Hinkley $25 has the same colors as the FLV $25, too.

You guys rock, I love this forum/site. All that stuff my wife says about how you guys are all just “enabling” my “unhealthy addiction”, and all those complaints I hear from my kids about how I spend “way too much time on stupid poker chips”, I think they’re all just jealous!! Hahaha j/k ... sort of.

To my knowledge, this is true - sort of. The Grand Casino chips were initially rejected because of a misspelling - Hinkley instead of Hinckley - and thus cancelled. The remaining blanks that were made but not yet inlaid were then used for the Fabulous Las Vegas line. New chips were created for the properly spelled versions.

So sweet. Anyway to still get these?

Sorry for all of the questions, but did you mill those or just overlay them, looks fantastic!

They are out there. I just sold an extra rack a few months back. Good luck with the hunt.

I just placed the label directly over the existing inlay. No milling required.

Making good progress on wiping out my bank account erm I mean building sets and now I'm interested in grabbing a sample set of @Gear 's labels.

Alterbatively, does anyone have a set they'd like to pass on?

Can someone post a close up shot of a faux shaped full replacement textured laminate label?
In my browsing, the faux shaped labels seem to all be overlabels (so not laminated).

Thanks!

Not a full replacement, but a laminated textured faux shaped gear label.

Thanks for posting that - didn't realize it was laminated, but I see that now. Not a full replacement? How did you have the room for a full laminated label over an existing one?

I wonder if it makes a difference between the complexity of the faux shape. My worry is that a complex faux shape, such as a gear, might look too fake over the more plain round (or in your case less complex) label shape.

The inlay on the chip was recessed enough so that applying the label directly was fine. The chips still stack solid. I got a few samples from gear of both laminated and non laminated and tested them before finally deciding on the laminated. YMMV.

If you can get the faux portion color matched to the base chip, it will look great. @Gear did a fantastic job matching the light blue on my chips. I'm sure he can do the same for you. Worst case, you will have to send him a chip so he can exact match the color.

Is it possible to oil chips, after the gear label is applied?
I have oiled chips with Gear labels (laminated) with no detrimental effect. I use very little oil on a rag, and oil both the rolling-edge and faces. When fresh oil is applied to the rag, I do edges first, because I know the label isn't going to absorb oil.

Using the oil & water method may return different results.

I asked @Gear about oiling milled chips with labels.

He said...
I would say oil the chips after applying the labels. You could conceivably oil them first, but then I would suggest waiting a while (like a couple of weeks) for the oil to dry or soak into the chip or whatever. (In any and every case, LESS IS MORE when it comes to oiling!)

Oiling after labelling should be better in terms of adhesion, and the surface of the labels (especially laminated labels) is not affected by the oil. The edges might be affected a little bit, but again, keep the volume of oil to a minimum and if possible keep it away from the edges of the labels, and they should be fine.

When I apply oil to milled & labelled chips, I use a sponge thingy on the rolling edges, and my fingertip on the face just to do the mold rim.
