In Memory of John Faulhaber (J5 Designs) (1 Viewer)

I haven’t been on the board in forever but @shleepytime told me about this today. I am heartbroken. Beyond doing amazing work for me J5 was just a genuinely outstanding and kind individual. I tried for years to get him to attend my events just because I knew the number of lives he had impacted here. Phenomenal person with an immense talent for the artistry of this hobby. His memory is a blessing to everyone that frequents this board and our games.

So sad , to lose a superstar legend and pillar and of the community, and at such a young age. His talented artistic touch and design influence is literally everywhere among us -- the shear volume of his creative work is pretty incredible.

J5 was among the first chippers I spoke with personally/privately off the public forums, going way back to the CT days, and always a delight.

I'll miss you, John, as will many others. RIP.

John really is a foundational personality for this whole board. I don’t know how but I feel permanently memorializing him in some manner here is appropriate?

Just seeing this now! I am crushed but unfortunately not surprised knowing he was struggling with his health. I had no idea he was so young, a year younger than myself.

I remember J5 from Chiptalk days and when I returned to chipping, after a long layoff, one of my goals was to do a project with him. After a long wait, I was blessed enough to finish my project with him on May 23rd 2024. A special project that involved building a set with my wife. John nailed my vision so quickly it was shocking. He was a master when it came to design. When CPC returns this set will be made. Rest in peace J5.

I think this is the best place to showcase his designs. Rather than split over multiple threads, here is a place to pay tribute and display his beautiful accomplishments.
Keep them coming, everyone.
I agree, keep this thread alive with all of the info and the 4-page start.

John was the designer of the Key West inlay. I was lucky to work with him on all the add-on projects and products over the past 14 years.

He was a professional, through and through, an unmatched talent and a kind gentleman. His obituary is a testament to the wonderful man he was.

Gone too soon, and too young.

Rest in peace, John.

Rest in peace, John.

I never knew who did the Capri design, I’ve always loved it and it’s one of my favorites!!

I never had the opportunity to work with J5, but very sad to hear the news. Seems he’ll leave a positive impact on the hobby and community for years to come and from all who were lucky enough to know him well.

Condolences to his family and loved ones.

J5 was a great designer and a good dude. He designed my HS set, DB, and felt. But, I never moved forward with the inlays...

RIP Johnny. He designed my ceramic sets many years ago and was absolutely wonderful to work with. I had always planned on using him to design a clay set, and/or a hybrid set, depending on how long it is before I can't afford either. Great guy with a great legacy.
