Cash Game Impact of equal SB/BB and question on denominations (3 Viewers)

Agree with most of the above (except I like fracs vs no fracs debate), for those buy in amounts, I think 0.25/0.25 blinds is as high as you want to go.

I always prefer minimum 100 BB up to 200 BB for starting stacks. I hate low buy ins with fewer higher denom chips issued.

For $0.25/0.50 I do $50-$100 buy ins, initial buy in is a barrel of fracs, a barrel of $1s for a total of $25 and the rest in $5s to get them between $50-$100 (this does end up with too many fracs, but oh well):

For $0.5/$1, I do $100-$200 buy ins, the below racks are setup for max buy in. Average was about $150, only 8 fracs issued:

The $1/$1 comments earlier I understand as examples, but really you should reduce the big blind amount. I also split cost for pizza, but that’s separate from the above buy in amounts.

I personally like having stacks of chips in front of me, even if they are fracs. Some people like to color up ASAP, while I only feel it's necessary if we need more smaller denoms available.

Though I do understand wanting to be the first to nab a $25 or even $100 chip.

I think 120 x 25c is best for a 10-person table. At some point, someone will collect most of the fracs.

Just make the first 6 buyins at 20 x 25c, 20 x $1 and # x $5. After those first six buyins (and for all rebuys), don't give out any fracs; instead, give out one extra $5 chip instead of the barrel of quarters. Then let the players buy fracs from other players at the table.

I’ll admit I only read half the posts in the thread before writing this but I think this hasn’t quite been said yet.

I would all together restart your thinking from a math perspective.

I think buy ins less than 150BB don’t give people enough room to play.

I don’t like encouraging anyone I know to play game where they aren’t prepared to play for 3 or 4 buy ins comfortably.

What’s the average people want to lose?

Divide that by 500, that’s your BB. So sounds like 10¢/10¢ is actually where you need to be.

It sounds like a big step down when you’re saying you want to up the stakes. But I think you actually want to up the poker strategy/playability and bigger effective stacks and comfortably being able to consistently rebuy is going to do that the most.

Then it’s also easier to take the $8 (or even $10) off. Everyone gives you $25, take off $10 for food. Everyone starts with 150 BB. Rebuys are to $15 or whatever you want.

Use 10¢, 25¢, $1… etc

Can do 50¢ instead of 25¢ if you’re feeling goofy, but I don’t like it.

Skimmed mostly. Alot of good advice.

Agree that stacks are too shallow. For $25 - $8 for food = $17, just give them $50 (or a clean 3x for $51) in chips. Make sure to divide by 3 for cash outs, with anything that doesn't divide evenly going to the HHJ.

Now everyone has 100xBB.

Also agree to just using 25¢ (blinds 25¢/50¢) or 50¢ (blinds 50¢/50¢) chips, not both
Interesting, this may be the way to go. Haven't thought too much on it, but, initially I think it's genius.

Starting with 50bb as you do will quickly make 2-3 short stacks at the table. Maybe start with $23 or $25 at 0.25/0.25 and finish with 0.25/0.50?

Start and finish? Cash game should remain stable throughout.
It's not a big change and allows for more dramatic finish - if players agree, of course. In practice, it gives more chances for short stacks to double up against these pesky nits! Is it considered unfair or frowned upon to slightly shift blinds in cash games?

I don't think it is bad. I have been to a game that has an hour warm up, where blinds are .25/.50c and $60 max for first hour and then .50c/$1 blind for the rest and match the largest stack. I like the warm up hour. I tried it myself recently, with one .25c blind, and then after an hour, .25/50c blinds, where in the first hour it was $25 max and after that it was $50max. I think it can work well.
