Tourney Ideal Breakdown for 30 Person T10,000 Set? (3 Viewers)

When you're on a budget in terms of # of chips there is zero sense in getting more small denoms (T25 and T100...and maybe even T500) than are needed for starting stacks.

Just snagged one extra barrel of blacks. Partially to fill up (even out) a rack and partially to allow a few extra blacks when coloring up the greens. Could get by without the extras, sure...

Who said I'm buying and not simply considering paring down my current sets?

That would be a boring thread ;)

You should have just bought the Argosy, supports 36+ players for T20K. Found my notes from DCS3:

Players 1 - 28 get 12-12-7-5-2 (the 2 being 5k plaque)

Players 29 - 35 get 12-12-17-1 (a 10K plaque)

Player 36 gets 20 x T500 and 2 x 5k plaque

Plenty of plaques for rebuys and color-ups.

Not my recommended breakdown since too many T500 vs T1000 but ya gotta work with what's available.

Based on OP parameters (up to 30 x T10k stacks, <= 1000 chips), I'd recommend the following:

chip set:
240 x T25
240 x T100
120 x T500
210 x T1000
70 x T5000 (all color-ups and re-buys)
-----------
880 chips, allows for the following T10000 starting stacks:

up to 12 players:
20 x T25
20 x T100
3 x T500
6 x T1000
-------
49 chips

up to 15 players:
16 x T25
16 x T100
4 x T500
6 x T1000
-------
42 chips

up to 20 players:
12 x T25
12 x T100
5 x T500
6 x T1000
-------
35 chips

up to 30 players:
8 x T25
8 x T100
4 x T500
7 x T1000
-------
29 chips

estimated tournament times (excluding 3 color-up breaks):

T10000 starting stacks
25/50 starting blinds (200BB)
25%-50% blind increases (41% avg)

15-minute blind levels:
3.5 hrs (10 players)
4.0 hrs (20 players)
4.5 hrs (30 players)

20-minute blind levels:
5.0 hrs (10 players)
5.5 hrs (20 players)
6.0 hrs (30 players)

I'm a little shocked that you would suggest that with rebuys, your endgame would require 60-70 T5000s and appx 50 T1000s on the board. Sure, it's doable, and I am one that loves big piles of chips, but a barrel of T25,000s would make so much of that ever so manageable.

And then make it:

240 (25)
240 (100)
120 (500)
300 (1000)
80 (5000)
20 (25k10000)

Ok, I'm coming around to this 1000 chip breakdown. But I'll have to see if I can make it happen. It just seems to me that given that I'd rarely (if ever!) have 30 players, this set is just too big, since in those rare cases where I have 30 players, it would work using 800 chips.

If wanting to keep the set limited to 800 chips, this breakdown works for up to 27 players (three tables of nine players):

220 x T25
220 x T100
110 x T500
190 x T1000
45 x T5000
15 x T10000
-----------
800 chips

Also allows full 12/12/5/6 stacks for two tables of nine players, or two full 10-player tables with some minor stack changes for players 16-20.

A long-delayed update to this thread: I opted for an 800 chip breakdown, with T25,000 as the top denomination. Ultimately, while the 1000 chip breakdown was cleaner, this breakdown saves me the expense of 200 chips that may never get used.

For the extremely rare/unlikely time I'd have 30 players, it allows 8/8/4/7 for 16 players and 8/8/4/2/1 for the rest. Should be plenty of T5000s and T25Ks for rebuys and color-ups.

For 20 players, everyone gets 8/8/4/7, so @links_slayer will be happy.

Thanks all for the help everyone!

Went with:

240 x T25
240 x T100
120 x T500
140 x T1000
50 x T5000
10 x T25000
-----------
800 chips

That last mixed barrel of T5Ks and T25Ks will slowly drive @jbutler insane, and that's priceless.

I like it Goph!

I have a couple of 800c sets with the exact same breakdown (-25k +5k) and it works great...
