I Finally Figured Out Why We Buy & Buy & Buy Chips (1 Viewer)

At this point I am certain it is some psychological trickery or outright black magic. It must be the shape, the feel, the color and the reflection.
How else could you explain to a sane person the amount of time and money spent on simple chips, yea, poker chips.

My problem when buying sets is scale. Currently short of full professional operation I doubt I will ever need more or another chip set again in my life. Really I should trim 1 or 2, but currently fly I dont have to and I dont want to as I like all of 20+k of them.
I always think "what if" or "I'd like a set that could cover this or that " and I like to maintain a theme so it's a full set or nothing.
So when you get working on the spreadsheet to determine desired chip counts it's easy to add ~20-40 chips of each denom to figure in an additional table or rebuy etc... for tourney set, or adding lots of 1,5 ;25 chips to your cash set to have limit set/multi table capabilities... spreadsheets are my worst enemy. Especially because once you have a certain # then well only a few more will push you over the next limit. One example is my HSI cash set (mostly primary) started as a cash set, then expanded to be a cash/tourney set for 2 tables, then I expanded to 4 table T5 and later 4 table t25 capability...along the way adding those chips I added to the base cash set 25&below to allow for a larger T5 tourney and also the ability to run 2 cash tables of any type side by side poker/blackjack/roulette/craps whatever and I'm comfortable that I could floor possibly up to 3 table games for a charity type event with that set. That said the same theory cause me to expand a Horse show Cincinnati set to 4 table capability in order to allow a seperate set.... also given my thought of having my HSI potentially play as tourney chips t25+ I needed a rack of secondary 25 and 100's to cover the cash table playing .25/.25 to 1/2. I have considered a few racks of secondary 1's or 5's but am afraid that could result in more racks of 5's since i like at least 3-4 in a cash set. So i have settled on my current # of HSI chips as they fill 3 drawers including both bottom drawers in this cabinet with plaques taking up a full drawer in the upper cabinet. Still hoping to find a few more 1k HScinci peach tourney chips for that tourney set. I fear I suffer from chip metastasis more than the ego of owning them.
In my collection I have checked off
-- old time custom set
-- inexpensive retro alternative secondary version of my custom set (both can cover cash+tourney play from its bank without crossover of chips in play if needed)
-- cheap slugged travel set of all denoms that I'm not afraid to lose, sell or gift
-- nostalgic slugged set thats a Keeper
-- massive quality casino cash set that can cover anything total bank $929,600
-- tourney set with a similar theme horse shoe to cash set to allow a more concurrent game then NCV and seperate cash chips
--desire for a bad ass 100 person 10 table fantasy option set....fulfilled with majestic star 36mm for a t5 or t25 ten table game with up to 5k starting stacks and up to 3x rebuys per player, I would need -2 racks more of 1ks to allow for a 10k starting stack, I have ceased that expansion for now.
-- then for some reason I also have another smaller majestic star leaded tourney set with beautiful colours that I love and a old set of leaded THC gaming school chips from the Atlantic Card and Dice Company (A.C.D.C.) which are an epic rock and roll set.

I have more than enough gaming chips to run a private card room, deep down I am also a bit of a prepper and I'm different than many I want to survive but also live a little. So if it ever happens that anarchy reigns, I will open the hunger games and allow folks to exchange items such as food or sundries for $chip value currency that can be used again later to rebuy said previously exchanged items put up on the wall like a children's ticket arcade (among other ideas, lol). This was a joke a few years back but seems to come up as a topic more often recently.

My current chip problem mainly includes being lured into accessory/dealer button group buys with attractive women in bikinis etc.....

Dice Chips are to Paulsons what Sniffing Glue is to Heroin
Makes sense, better of with a safe CPC dubie when

Cards Mold Ceramics = fentanyl
RHC Mold Ceramics = Tranq (fentanyl with xylazine)

Now that would be some movie plot there where a poker chip is planted with fentanyl or even carfentanil at a card game and some guy wearing gloves knocks out the whole room and steals the bank.....

WTF have YOU been sniffing? :ROFLMAO:

In the guitar world it's called GAS- Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. Is it CAS in the chip world? If you buy right and get lucky, each can be a good investment. That dopamine rush tends to decrease with each purchase but it's still there (I've gone through GAS and CAS). I'm all better now though...

I just got into chipping recently, and I know I have it bad because my only regret so far is not getting into it sooner. I have one tournament set at the moment, and am getting a 2nd through the Broken Arrow September group buy. I also have been looking at getting a tournament set of Royals from Apache poker chips, and eyeing some of the tourney sets from the Chip Room. Keep in mind, I have never once played in a tournament, at a casino or a home game.

Good start. Keep going! Buying chips for games we might not play is normal!
