How was your 2023 Poker Year? (1 Viewer)

Forgot to mention that I don't have a bankroll, but rather a budget :p :) :)
Oh for sure. Money won playing poker stays in my roll to be used the next time. When needed, I slowly augment my roll, like feeding more flour to a sourdough starter.

I got fucking wrecked September to December last year, holy shit.

January-August: +110, 24 sessions, 11 winning, 13 losing
September-December: -$623, 10 sessions, 2 winning, 8 losing

I deleted it in November and just reinstalled it today.
I just didn't want to face the numbers from the last 4 months until today when I saw this thread.

Mistakes were made.

Stop playing online, or drastically lower the stakes. You can't ever win online. It's an expense just for practice.
Edit: by "online" I mean, of course the internationally accessible platforms, not home games among friends and acquaintances

This was all in person.

About 50/50 split between cash and tournaments

I swear I scrolled down to fast to see the person commenting and I thought this was @CraigT78  :ROFLMAO:

2023 started ok, warmed up to good mid-year, and finished great. Wound up being one of my best years (money-wise and growth-wise) since the first boom ended, which was nice after 2020 being literally breakeven. My goal for 2024 is to hold on to the level of focus and insight I found for the last quarter of 2023. If I can do that, between live and online, I think I can possibly break the $100k barrier. Maybe even smash it. Here's to optimisim.
I'm never going to brag again. Immediately after this post I went to the casino and played a 12+ hour session. Total: -$1700. At 1/3 nlhe.

I guess 2024 is about teaching me humility.

Started my own home game, made the decision to finally start tracking my sessions to find leaks and see where I am at. I know I am a winning player, however I just dont know how much lol. Could be $500 or it could be a couple grand but I really want to buckle down and track everything this year.

I traveled to many meetups and got to meet a lot of people. I had a blast but I will probably never attend that many meetups in a calendar year ever again lol.

As for the bankroll, it was one hell of a rollercoaster just to almost break even after going on a sun-run in December. Not complaining! I typically play in home games with some super high-variance games being called every deal (think of "bingo" poker). In December I introduced new house rules which limited a lot of the games that can be played. I believe that's the reason for that sharp uptick.

are you sure me moving to the east coast wasn't the reason?

I primarily play at meetups and at occasional home games. I was fortunate to cash in about half of the meetup tourneys I played and earned hardware in 4 events:

SQM VIII - 2nd place

Foray into AK Replay - 3rd place

Poker Hall Legends vol 2 - 1st place

I finished up in in cash in all but one meetup and usually won enough to cover most of my expenses. I did finish down in credit card roulette for the year :confused Overall I achieved my goals for 2023 - win enough to keep traveling to events and have a good time :) and to stack Rufus @BootySnatcher as often as possible :p

My goal for 2024: Drink fewer Mai Tai's

2023 was good. I netted over $6,000 and 94bb/hour when I was able to play 1/2 live at the casino. Too bad I don’t get to play there often!
