The upper threshold for me is the average amount of money we have in play at our weekly home game. Any amount greater than that seems excessive, but then again, I would rather have a nice poker table and a comfy set of chairs than a beautiful chipset.

2€ / chip (average) is my upper limit for a complete set (10-max).
So basically 1200€ for a cash set (600 chips) or 620€ for a STT T100-based tourney set (310 chips).

This actually isn’t a bad approximation, our usual $.5/1 game probably has $3-4K on the table, which is about the upper limit I’d consider, though most of my 800pc sets have been in the $2-2500 range

If I'm buying a completed set outright, I'd probably not spend over 1k on the spot (call me cheap if you want to :) ), but if I'm piecing together a set over time, it would be based on the price per rack. I seriously doubt I'd ever spend more than probably $250 on a single rack of chips. I can't bring myself to do that.

my most expensive set is my flvs thc set at around 1500 for 600 chips.

Then my sunsets at just under 2k, but it's 1300 chips.

My mixed trk set was my most expensive and only had 440 chips lol.

I have spent about $3500 (customs) at one time for a set. Most of my sets have been built over time though so that I didn’t have to put out that much at once. Though most of them cost me around $2k initial investment. So that is probably my pain threshold unless it is something very special.

If, miraculously, newcomers were already updated on the charms and value of leaded secondary mint THCs with shaped inlays, or TRKs, it would take just a couple of posts per person.
"I know visiting here eventually costs 10 grand. Any grail set available? My money is here. If not, fuck you; I 'll stay with the dice chips till one becomes available"
:D

Duh.

I used to not want to spend more than a few hundred on chips and then I found this awful place lol I think 3k ish is about the max I want to spend on sets and on a big night we get 4k in play so seems about right. My shaped inlay mixed THC set is about $3000 at 700 chips. My semi custom AS chips ran me about $2500 for 800 chips including 100 43mm chips. The only set that breaks the mold on what I'm willing to spend is my 600 piece Sunset Beach set that is being relabeled into my own cash design. That set is worth close to 6k and honestly makes me a little sick just thinking about it haha. I don't plan on buying any other sets without selling some of what I have now. Can't justify any more money in clay lol.

I'm about to put down $4k which should cover me for all the tables I have now plus about 10 more down the road.

"quite a lot", for awesome TRK sets -- as I would consider that long term rentals. I haven't really thought about what a limit would look like there.

As badly as I want a CPC custom set, I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger (again), since several chips I want are in the $5+/chip range, and when it's CPC, you're no longer renting.

Holy cow... I just bookmarked your website!

I really don't think of it in terms of "dollars per set", since many of mine have been pieced together rack by rack (and I'm just renting them, anyway).

I think the most I've spent on a single rack was around $1500, although I've had sets where some racks were worth as much as $2500 each. I've plunked down $95/chip for small quantities, and I think the largest single chip expenditure at one time (to date) was around $8600 (but for a crap-load of chips). Biggest single chip set sale was around $11,000.

Most of mine are are 1000+ piece tournament sets, so at today's prices, it's not unusual to spend $3000-$4000 or more on something if it's already put together. Most custom clay sets I've considered buying would also be in that ballpark.

Have we mentioned you don’t post enough pics?
