I'm curious to know how much poker people play on average over the course of a year.

I have kept results the past 3 years and by no means play in a regular game

2019 - 4 nights of poker
2020 - 15 nights (this was mostly Pokerrrr2 with some old friends)
2021 - 8 nights (Pokerrrr2 fizzled out and this was mostly live games)

That's an average of 9 times per year over the past 3 years.

I would say back before having kids and in college days (15 years ago) it was closer to 45 to 50 nights of poker due to hosting a regular weekly game. Then when all the buddies graduated and moved away it died down to about 2 or 3 times per year for many years.

I'd like to get back to playing cards a couple times per month on average. If I go and play a tournament that is followed by a cash game, I still count that as 1 night of poker.

Assuming that it's about live poker, I had reached 12 per year or once a month before the pandemic, but it has fallen to below 10 eversince.
I had to play to a game with dice chips and no cut card the night before, just because it was a game and the host (to his credit) demanded 3 doses of vaccination and a rapid test from each player.

At any rate, I 've now played 27,000 hands online, which must be at least 3X of what I had played all my life.

In person probably 10-12 nights/year average over the past decade, though during COVID only 3-4 nights/year.

Online, during COVID, ~50 nights/year of cash games, ~150 nights/year of tournaments.

I wouldnt think to count online poker, because that’s not quite poker as far as I’m concerned.
Prior to covid, about once a week, in some combination of home games and casino/poker room play.
Since covid, I dunno, I think I’ve played like poker about 5 times? It’s very sad.

Before covid? Maybe 1 or 2 a month for the last several years. 200-300 a year during college.

If online home games count, probably 50-100ish a year.

I Iike to play at least twice a month. Sometimes three if I can swing it. Keeps playing fresh and not feeling too grind-ey. Also helps that I mix in tournaments and cash games and dealer's choice mixed games.

Ideal is to play one NLHE tournament, one mixed games cash game, and one additional extra game of either NLHE or dealer's choice cash per month.

I typically play 2 - 3 nights a week, almost never online, maybe 10 times a year online?
I deal about once a week, I alternate dealing vs playing that night.

Host a weekly league - ~50 wks per year
Play in a once a month league - 12 times per year
Host weekend tournaments - ~6 times a year
Play in other Home games - ~4 time a year
Play in Casino - not as much with Vegas Fuc*$D, but stil a few bigger tourneys at the local Horseshoe

I recently broke into the 10-20 bracket, combining in-person and online games. However, some of those games are microstakes, so I feel like they maybe only count for 1/2 game.

Games for 2021 unlisted as it was a really really weird year for me but:

2020 cash: 50 games s/mtt: 63 games
2019 cash: 48 games s/mtt: 62 games
2018 cash: 37 games s/mtt: 40 games (started tracking April 2018 via Poker Tracker)
Previous years untracked but some higher, some lower, serious playing since about 1999.

Serious play with no tracking software for nearly 10 years?

Those numbers are close to what some people play in a day.

… If you ain’t pissing in a cup mid session it ain’t serious.

i've played 30k hands in the last week and a half  :ROFLMAO:

Zoom poker earned it's name

Damn, those dudes in the >50 bucket really hit the jackpot with their spouses. Keep living the dream for the rest of us.
If you only knew, winning or losing 5k was the same thing really, console me when I lost happy for me when I won. One time I gave her 100 bucks, we were about 22, told her to just go blow it on shoes, she called me later and asked if she could get a blouse, she got a pair of shoes but didn't see any thing else she liked, when she got home, she gave 60 back in change ...... lol

I guess I shouldn't have used the word "serious". I meant pretty regular weekly casual home games. These are all live games.

Live only, always cash:
My regular crew tries to play about once a week, with an occasional off week when enough people have a schedule conflict.
But throw in some impromptu games by other friends, as well as the occasional casino visit, and I'm at 50+.
I try not to play online if I can help it.

At least 3x/mo home game
Probably casino/cardroom 6-8x/yr
I went with 41-50

300+ nights per year for more than a decade. Now, maybe 5 nights per year lol.

me and my group of friends are around 18-23y/o. Only recently did we start playing poker again (used to play with another group, of which some are from both cliques). In late 2021 when we re-look at poker, we had about 3-4 nights of poker which itch me to join PCF and thought of getting my first set of Paulsons.. Casual though. 10c/20c stakes

Let's see, started playing around 1954, usually weekly. Several times a week during my 8 Army years. Hosted a weekly game for about 23 years in DC. Roughly weekly, plus BARGE tournament weeks, until COVID hit -- now nothing...

92 cash sessions and 41 tourney sessions last year. A lot of them the first 6 months were on-line and there were nights where we played cash and tourney live or 2-3 tournies in one night.

This month, 8 sessions on-line and 7 sessions live, all cash.

I started playing during the hockey strike / poker boom.

We had a weekly cash game, semi-weekly tournies, and the local casino had weekly blackjack tournaments, so for a couple years I was playing 10x a month.

Things have quieted down a lot over the years, now I don't even play monthly, but I plan to change that.

I put together a cash set and tournament set last year, and am planning to build a table over spring break, then try to start regular games and tournaments up.
