I have mentioned this exact issue in the past when talking about old worn Metallic Gold chips, but I was just pooh-poohed.

I sold about 80 Metallic Gold starburst solids a couple of years ago which had all kinds of weird pitting on some of the rolling edges, but the faces were in good shape. The pitting I was told (iirc) was a production flaw, not due to wear.

The Vineyard oversized $500 chips are newer (like 90s, not 70s), and they all seem to have kept their color well for over 20 years now.

I've seen that issue as well. I've also seen face wear that looked like metallic gold was worn off and looked like a black or dark grey chip underneath. Could have been the same issue I suppose, except no pitting.

Like @Thomacetti said, they get this dull, almost oxidized look to them. I assume it's from handling, but I'm not sure if it's actually some kind of oxidization or what - like, its not like they're dipped in gold and the outer layer wore off. But thats kind of what it looks like. And I've never read of anybody restoring them. There was a casino that had metallic gold fracs (Fitgeralds, maybe?) so if you can find discussions about those, you maybe can learn more.

Best way for me to describe it is they end up looking like Khaki dark dark green colored, almost camo greenish. I had a rack of solids at one time, mostly used, but a few mint. I wanted so badly to like them, nope they had to go.

There’s no restoring the luster either, from what I understand.

Also the secondary 25s and 500s end up wearing down and looking like dice chips, so you probably don’t want to buy those.

just realized my sample set has been in my mail box since yesterday about 4pm. lol

reckon' I'll go fetch em tomorrow
If I did that here they'd end up looking like pringles.

I’m not home right now so this is the best pic I have of my “ well loved” Fitz quarters. They are very dull but still really cool in my opinion, and heavy as hell. EDIT never mind these are the weird greenish gold ones from Vegas, not my metallic gold ones from Reno sorry.

Nice $1's!! ;):ROFL: :ROFLMAO::wow:

Here some pics of the Metallic Golds I had. You can see the edges were irregular. But the faces did not show much wear.

If people are expecting this color to look like a shiny wedding ring, there is sure to be disappointment. It’s more of a bronze-gold, not yellow or platinum, and only a little reflective.

Could someone take stacked side shots of all the primary, secondary, and primary + secondary together in order of smallest to largest? I would like to see the edge spots and how the different colors blend together.

I’m not at home to take pics, but when I was looking at this question the biggest potential conflict I noticed was between the $1 secondaries’ Plum spot and the $5s’ red/cherry base colors.

Also, it seemed like each of the 1K denoms could potentially blend somewhat with either of the 25Ks, if they were both in play at the same time, and in warm/low lighting situations.

OK, back home. Here’s some pics, didn't get them all in one stack as requested... Also had to do multiple takes because of the three $1 options.

I’d say that there is also a bit of a potential dirty stack issue between the Metallic Silver and Gold 5K / 25K. The hues are different but the values are very close.

For my preferred lineup (mostly secondaries), I see some issues:

The first image was my original preference: secondary frac & snapper, tertiary $1, secondary 25-100-500-1Ks, primary 5K and 25K.

The main problem is in the middle section—lots of yellow and hot orange jumbled up. I may want to swap out the brown 100 for the black 100 (second image), except that the black 100 has the same spot pattern as the secondary 25... So maybe gotta go with the the darker purple primary 500 instead of the secondary.

You have your primary and secondary 500s mixed up. Secondary is the 4v418 pattern.

I had great luck with USPS this time around. It went from scheduled for delivery tomorrow (Tuesday) - to being actually delivered last Friday.

Can't wait for a sale, hoping to pick up two racks of those $0.25 primary blues.

Anyone wanting to combine orders?

My sample set arrived today, in Canada. I'm not sure what trick @TheChipRoom uses, but Jim's packages are always fast!

The primary $500 is amazing, the secondary $25 is also great. I think this would be my preferred lineup, on the fence on the $5 (think I would do primary for cash and secondary for tournament), also concerned about the wear on the metallic $5k and $25k.

Waiting to see tournament options before I decide on my game plan.

In the pictures @Taghkanic posted the primaries look to have really sharp edges. Is that everyones assessment?
I believe chiproom said that there were a lot of unused primarys, and he used those for sample sets. One would assume if there are enough of them, they'll be offered for sale at a premium over the used primaries
