They were doing this at my local casino on Day One of an entire rack switch.
UNminting five chips in a swipe, because they wouldn't just use their finger.

Hey @natumes - thanks for the pics.
The tertiary $1 looks brighter than the others, is that just as it's all new and shiny? And it's the same base colour as the Isle and primary? I think I read the secondary is off-white which makes sense too.
Thanks.
They appear to be the same color but the tertiary $1 is very clean which may come through in the photo as a brighter white. The edge spots make them look slightly different but when covering the spots and putting the edges together they are the same. Secondary is off white.

That's absolutely terrible! Nobody wants them now!
:cautious:
LOL. Just wasn't sure if everybody's had similar scratches or if I just had some bad luck. Most of the chips don't have any scratches at all, so I was bummed to see it on the 25k.

Did you wash off the markings on the clay? And if so was it easy to do? I’m hoping to display this set and would be pretty bummed if I got chips that had markings like that that didn’t wash off.

A magic eraser would definitely clean up the inlay, hard to say if it will help with color transfer on the clay from the rack checks.

My main concern is with the color transfer. The inlay scratches aren’t a big deal but I will clean them since I know it’s easy and possible. Fingers crossed I get a really nice one!

On the bright side, usually the opposite side of a chip that has been so thoroughly rack checked (probably because it never left whatever rack it was in at the casino the entire time) is in excellent shape.

Probably just the usual bad cage training.
Count one barrel, put in rack, fill rack,:mad:RUN 1 CHIP ACROSS THE ENTIRE RACK TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALL THE SAME HEIGHT.:mad:
It hurts me to think about.

Don’t hold your breath hoping for a change. I think this is an action so deeply ingrained in casino people that it’s become like reflex or muscle memory.
At a tournament at Encore Boston, we were approaching color-up and I had over 100 T100s, so the floor guy dropped a rack in front of me. I filled it for him, and before he’d even pick it up, he gave it a swipe with a chip. These are newish Paulson chips in Paulson racks - there’s no doubt that rack is full. And we’re talking about practically meaningless ante chips. But whether it’s for the cameras or for his own peace of mind or by reflex or policy (probably all 4) he just automatically checked that rack, seemingly without thought.

" I know how paulson metallic chips age and handle wear - badly. "

Do tell, what happens diff than any other Paulson?

They get grey-ish / dull....I had some silver PCA roulettes...HEAVY as fuck but very worn (looked liked burned solder)

That's why I would NEVER choose silver or gold for base or spot color
Like @Thomacetti said, they get this dull, almost oxidized look to them. I assume it's from handling, but I'm not sure if it's actually some kind of oxidization or what - like, its not like they're dipped in gold and the outer layer wore off. But thats kind of what it looks like. And I've never read of anybody restoring them. There was a casino that had metallic gold fracs (Fitgeralds, maybe?) so if you can find discussions about those, you maybe can learn more.

I have mentioned this exact issue in the past when talking about old worn Metallic Gold chips, but I was just pooh-poohed. I can only hope that later formulas of MG chips are more consistent and durable (compared to the 70's/80's versions I might have had).

I don't think a magic eraser will help with the inlay. It's got like a plastic coating on it and they're scratches that you can feel with a fingernail. I'll give it a try, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Post some pictures of it when you use the magic eraser. If you don’t mind :)

The magic eraser should work. You will in effect be sanding through the clear coat until you reach the bottom of the rack checks.

Big fan of mint chips.

Not a fan of the smaller inlays on the fracs, dollars, and snappers. Reminds me of the home Paulson line (Pharoahs, classics, etc). Just not a good look in my opinion.

I was intending on a cash set. But going to pass on this one. Wait for the next one...

LOL

Magic eraser and a decent amount of scrubbing will get rid of the rack checks. All my Empress $1000’s had a ton of rack checks and all cleaned up nicely.

edit: want to add that I have never used magic eraser on a metallic gold based chip but it should work great on the inlay.
