I am a newbie recently reinvigorated with my love for poker through the Coronavirus fallout and rallying my friends to start playing again, albeit online at the moment. Oddly, although not to y'all I would assume, one of my favorite aspects has always been playing with different chip sets and randomly keeping a chip here or there from casinos. I have always been drawn to chips and decided I wanted to get a new set for when things start back up and for my own satisfaction. I luckily stumbled across this site in my search and have been silently browsing for quite a time since. Just looking at all of the unique chips and sets people have and the passion has me excited, enough that I decided to make an account and say hello.

Anyway, I am thinking I will take it slow and start with something like CCs (just got a few samples in yesterday), but my opinions and tastes are changing constantly due to the new things I read and see here. Looking forward to chipping with you degenerates (I kid I kid)!

Welcome, you came to the right place! :)

Curious to see which casino chips you already have and to see which sample sets you got?

And don't mind changing opinions/tastes: if you get tired of your current set, you sell it and buy a new (probably more expensive) one :D

See if you can nab a shuffle stack of Paulson chips.
There have been some very reasonably priced RHCs with near-mint condition edges.
You might be able to purchase an effective Paulson setup (fewer chips, proper breakdown) instead of a massive pile of china clays.
Mint RHCs are regularly selling for under $2/chip right now.
If you map out a proper breakdown, you’ll be surprised at how few chips you actually need to run a good game with your buddies.

Edit: Before people organize their torches and pitchforks, I’m guilty of flooding my table with tons of chips too!

Welcome to chip land! Theres so much chip and poker related info, along with fantastic members here! You sound like you have made a great start, keep up the good work! Definitely take it slow, but dont be surprised if the user warnings go way side and you're 5 sets deep in 6 months

The CC samples I got are Pharaohs, Dunes, Majestics, and Milanos, but I like the Dunes the best. Here's a pic with a few of those old chips; my parents nabbed those three for me when I was way younger.

I am looking up RHCs now to see what that specifically means. Thank you.

Your not kidding about becoming a degenerate. I was planning on building a small heads up set and now I am already 90% of the way to 500 chip set. Welcome soon to be degenerate!

RHC - basically the hat and cane goes all the way to the edge of the chip, they are more affordable but flea bite easier
THC is where the hat and cane are within an inner ring from the edge of the chip, these are typically a little more expensive and dont flea bite as easily.
Both are Paulson

Thanks. So the three in my picture above appear to be these RHCs. I can see the "flea bites" on the Monte Carlo edges in a few places.

Correct - and yes likely a good example of the type of damage the rolling edge is most prone to

This is an example of a THC (outer ring)

In addition to all the chip information, there is also a good thread covering the online game: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/online-home-poker.54141/
