First custom set.
I would like to hear your opinions and I think it would be fun if some talented and creative people helped me design some inlays. Any other helpful tips would also be appreciated.
I was messing around with google translate and I thought that the following were some interesting potential names for an Italian themed card room or casino. Let me know what you think.

Money tree- albero di soldi
All in- tutto dentro
High roller- rullo alto
Slow play- gioco lento
The nuts- le noci
Royal flush- Scala reale
Big bet- grande scommessa
Bad beat- brutto ritmo
Full boat- Barca piena
fifth street- quinta strada
jackpot- montepremi

I think I like “Brutto Ritmo” the best right now on the B-diamond mold.
I do know that I want the $1 chip to have one of he following edge spots.

BTW, “donkey” translates to “asino”
Thanks in advance PCF!!

I would like the following denoms eventually but was thinking I would start with cash set and then build onto it with tourney chips but ...... I may buy them all at once too. I am thinking of the following denoms:

Cash set phase 1

.25- I like orange and charcoal 1/4 pie
1- bright white, see above
5- red base
25- green base

Add on for tourney

100- black base
500- lavender base
1000- yellow base
5000- pink base ( not sure I may not use 5000 chip and design some plaques instead for this range)

For theme, maybe subtle touches with history and art. Not so much fashion or cars. Maybe food if done well. I am thinking mostly the font and style to be “old-world” Italian. I am thinking whatever image(s) should correspond to the English meaning of the name of the set. Can’t wait to see what people come up with!!

Quinta Strada stand out to me. Rolls off the tongue. Every time you deal the river "benvenuti in quinta strada". Or make a custom table cloth with that phrase.

With the $1 as your showpiece chip, I might spend a little more for the spots.

As an AC Milan fan, I'd need a Rosseneri chip for my $5.

Quinta Strada does sounds nice. Thanks for taking the time. I like the $1 design because it looks like a little Italian flag.

I'm gonna start using "le noci" at the tables.

Another one of my favorites! Would love to see a “le noci” inlay design. It seems like it would also be easier for the average player to pronounce and remember I think. Thanks!

I like the idea. For authenticity, I'd find an Italian poker source (easier said than done) rather than google translate to verify the text before going full bore into a custom set. Sometimes direct translation isn't correct. Last thing you want is to settle on a name only to realize it's not what an Italian would call it.

This is great advice. Thank you! I can get an AP Italian teacher to verify some of these names this week.
It would be great to get an actual Italian pro poker player’s advice. Anyone got any leads??

Great advice from the forum. I have whittled it down to (pending translation verification):

Le noci
Quinta strada
Tutto dentro
Rullo alto
Gioco lento
Scala reale

I think it needs to be easy to pronounce and remember. Still open to other suggestions for any other names. Would like to get a top 3 and then see what works best with inlay art and designs. I like a large denom on the face. The name can be subtle. Similar to Bellagio chips even with just cool fonts or colors (red, white, and green background design?) Not a fan of too busy of a chip. Just want it to look cool!! Truly grateful for all of the help.

Good idea. I used Google translate and it said Le noci was "the walnuts".

Or this? Technically this is a yellow chip but when the inlay is on it will be mostly peach. I would need to go with a lighter red for the T5 but I already wanting a lighter shade for the 5.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if "the nuts" is an English-only term.

If AP Italian teacher is a card player, that's probably the best route. Otherwise, might not be much better than Google Translate. Another method would be to find Italian poker websites and drop into a translator and reverse determine some terms.

Ok, so I will look into some of these terms further for sure. Don’t want to be one of those guys with a Chinese character tattoo that I think means “strength” but really means “idiot”.
BTW, wikipedia lists 9 Italian pro poker players.
3 are named Dario and 1 is named Jeff

if you look at the edges only, you could get the same effect from a blaze orange chip with red and yellow spots. These would only be L4 and much cheaper.

I like this, thanks. BTW. I am leaning towards “Quinta Strada”. This does mean 5th street so there is no translation issue which is another plus. Each word also has 6 letters so it should balance nicely in terms of symmetry on the inlay.

I think its going to turn out as a pretty cool set. Keep us posted with pics.

Will do. I am going to post a rough draft of edge spot progression for feedback soon. I am moving forward with “Quinta Strada”. Any good font suggestions??
Thoughts on background color of inlay matching or contrasting base color of chip??

Where would 5th street be in old-world Italy? I am picturing an Italian countryside with a winding road and old stone sign that reads “Quinta Strada”??

If you're going for classy, I'd say Italianno or maybe Grado Gradoo. With the right artwork, I think Zerocalcare Blockletter or March Madness could look cool. I think Xenippa is a little too busy.
