Tourney Help with chip breakdown for tourney that transitions to cash set. (2 Viewers)

I'm looking for a set that can handle 30 person tournaments that transition to up to 20 person 2 table $1/2$ no limit $300 max buy in as people bust. I'd like to have the ability to adjust the blind structure and starting stacks. I typically like tournaments to last in the 8 hour range, but we like 12 hour deep stacks too. I would be buying into the winter is coming group buy, so available cash denoms are .25, 1, 5, 20, 100. Tournament denoms are 25, 100, 500, 1000, 5000. I'm thinking 2000 chips but I'm open to more if thats what makes sense. Thanks for the help!

Unless you can find different 100-value chips for each set, don't do it - it's just not worth the risk. If insisting, drop the $100 cash chip and load up on $20s.

It's basically two different sets under one theme. I wanted to theme the room together. To me the $100 and the T100 are completely different and would work in the same room.

Two different sets that would be used in the same room. Once table 3 breaks it becomes cash. Maybe I should have made this two different threads, but I was hoping to have a two set combined total of around 2,000 chips. Might not be possible, and if thats the case it's fine I'll just be in for more then originally planned.

Yeah thats correct. Sorry, I could have explained that better. The game transitions, not the set.

So this is kind of what I was worried about, and why I put them both under one thread. Using your lesser total of 1400, I have 600 left for a 30 person tourney. Obviously not going to happen. I currently use a 1800 chip set to run that game.

It's quickly becoming obvious that I'll need a whole lot more then 2,000 chips to make this happen. Can I at least stay under 3,000?

Use 12/12/5/6 base T10K stacks (up to 20 players) or 8/8/6/6 base T10K stacks (21 to 30 players), and add T5000 chips to create larger starting stacks (up to 30 x T30K stacks, or 600bb with 25/50 opening blinds) if/when desired. Add 60x more T5000 chips if you want to support up to ten re-buys for a 3-table T30K event.

Using 8-8-4-7 T10k starting stacks requires 810 chips for starting stacks alone for a 30-player tourney. You'll want more for color-ups and re-buys.

You can likely get away with fewer chips than jbutler suggested for the cash set but it will play better with more chips.

If you limit yourself to a certain number of chips (or certain $$ amount) you're going to have to make concessions somewhere.

Not really a big deal to drop the $25s to $20s for the cash set. You'll have a lot of $100s to cover the big nights (of which there will hopefully be many).

I make them earn the coveted T25000! Honestly tho I agree with the new set since I'm not going to have T25k in play anymore. Completely open to your structure and breakdown ideas, and I greatly value your opinion.

Assuming two rebuys from all players (total $18k in play) to be sure to cover what comes into action, I definitely think the smallest you should go is the smaller of the two breakdowns I posted earlier (which, incidentally, using $20s and not counting the $1s, is exactly $18k).

Yes, you can conceivably play with fewer $5s, but it gets to be a big headache and discourages loose play when you have to constantly break big chips. 400 $5s per table is the minimum to facilitate good game flow.

No need to round up. The 25/100/500 breakdown will fill the racks. You will never need more then 320/320/160 - waste of $$$ on chips that will sit there.

That was a compromise. You're at 320/320/160, BG is at 240/240/180. I met it in the middle. I also only have room for 30 and wouldn't really want to add a 4th table.

Totally agree on nixing the idea of backup/spare sleeves for the tourney set. If rounding up to full racks, you already have extras that will never see play. Don't waste even more money that could be spent on cash chips that ~might~ see action.
