Help Building a THC set around live Binion's $1 (1 Viewer)

Been wanting to do this as I have been slowly slowly harvesting the minty chips from their blackjack tables, and I'm up to 190. With another trip to Vegas planned next month I think I can finish off 2 racks.

Anyone have any ideas that might be cool? These are definitely non-leaded. I would probably want to stick to something similar.

I would need 2 racks of 0.25 fracs, a rack of 5s and a barrel of 25 to cover my game.

Such an underrated chip IMO — great choice! Are you planning on relabelling chips to make up your fracs and fivers? Will give us a better idea of what might go well with them.

Maybe a THC hotstamp if any unleaded ones exist out there in reasonable price? If that isn't a possibility, I suppose I could find some milled solids and have some labels made.

I can’t think of any unleaded 25 cent THC fracs, honestly. There are a lot of leaded THC fracs out there though, and some, like the whites and the grays (which could work for you if you’ve got a blue $1,) aren’t too expensive. But that depends on how you define expensive. @Ben8257 might have some suggestions, since he’s been collecting racks of fracs.
And yeah, if you can find live THC $5s, they’d be cheaper than any THC $5s in decent shape that I can think of. But I can’t think of any.

For a $5, I wonder what Flamingo's would look like next to these. Might have to snag one during my trip.

I wonder if the Flamingos and the Joker's wild will be too close in color to be workable too.

Flamingo $5s, while beautiful chips, are going to be a tough harvest, at least with regard to matching the condition of your Binions. The poker room is likely still going to be closed and most of the $5s on the floor have rounded edges and are sticky/disgusting. I shuffled my stack maybe twice before feeling like I needed a shower.

JW fracs are awesome, absolutely love that Jester hat incorporated into the stamp. @upNdown is correct... most HS quarters are leaded.

Niw a days finding THC $5s for less than face has become difficult, but they are definitely out there!

@Shaggy brought up some great examples... but I believe Casablancas are leaded and those $25s are becoming very difficult to find, there is one with a gray spot that can still be found for around $400 a rack.

If you go the relabel route Mayne consider incorporating the Ventitian $2, olive green and really cool. Would probably make an awesome frac if you didn't go with a green $25

At first I was wondering why you are trying to build a THC set around Binion $1's when they are RHC, but I see the $1's you are after are indeed THC. I have a barrel or so of Binion's $1's just like the ones @jr8719 pictured above.

I personally don't like the look of mixing molds. Lots of great THC solids that would make great fractionals, but the difficult denomination is going to be the $5. I'm sure you could find something live somewhere that would be decent, but that is sort of expensive. Lots of us are hoping for a chip room buy with THC's that would make a good $5

Right, I checked the Chipguide earlier, saw RHCs and assumed that the RHCs were the live ones.
Also, just the fact that we don’t see a lot of Paris $5s here - if the THCs were live, I’d think we would. I understand the $1s are hard to harvest there, but I can’t imagine $5s being hard to harvest anywhere.

I have a strong suspicion that it is the RHC version that is commonly seen in the Paris LV. If, instead it is actually the THC version I am going to be very disappointed as I was just out there the week before last.

Newest Paris $5's are THC version (although they have plenty of the older RHCs mixed in; those are extremely worn at this point). THC version highly underrated chip imo. I harvested a couple racks off the craps tables pre-covid. It probably took me approximately 4 or 5 trips to harvest 2 racks in AU condition or better.

@Nanook Yeah Binions has near zero RHC $1s left in their live pit racks. They are still valid chips though that you can cash in. About 1 in 30 are RHC I would say at the tables.

@ADS Aviator now that is a good looking rack of chips. I agree it's a bit understated in terms of brightness of the red base color. Maybe thats why they aren't talked about as much. Honestly, these binions $1s base color isnt that flashy either so those could really fit well. The spots would progress well from the binions $1 too. Interesting.....

Obviously THC>RHC so if the chips at Binions are THC then that is fantastic news. Someone HAS to get over to Binions and buy up all the $1's before they retire the chips at the current Horseshoe LV

I meant correct that they are the only ones that I know of that aren't leaded... but even those had several runs and many of them are over 10g so not really sure rather they are or not.

Unfortunately from my understanding JW never reopened any table games and haven't heard of anyone getting any quarters out of there for a couple years now.

Honestly not really sure what Paulson is using to weight chips now, the Jerry's Nuggets are between 9.6 - 10.4 and I don't believe any of them were made in the leaded days. Must be using something to get them out of the 8.5 g category

I don't have pics, but there is a LOT of variation in weight from color to color & otherwise identical Paulson chips. I just weighed 14 different colors of newer (unleaded) RHC Solids and weights came in between 9.0-10.0 and everywhere in between. If you start looking at chips with different levels of wear, different molds, various spot patterns etc there can certainly be even more variation. Colors I weighed were Canary Yellow, Black, Munzel Green, Sherbet Green, Watermelon, Cherry, Orange, Grey, Ocean Blue, Pink, Peach, Lemon Green and Blurple & Coffee

Absolutely there is a ton of Varience between colors, but I have heard many claim chips as low as 9 6g are leaded but also others are over 10 and considered NOT leaded... so to be very clear, they may or may not be leaded. Lol

Personally I don't care as long as the chips in a set are close in weight. Our new THC set definitely has some variance.

Fracs are almost 11g
$1 are 11.4 grams
$5 are 10.2 grams
$25 are 10.4 grams
$100s are 10.8 grams

Sounds pretty close but you can definitely tell the difference between the $1s and $5s.

Anyways back to the OP, sorry for any derailment @Undream

As your chips are 2Vs personally I think they would make a bad ass relabeled frac paired with the Jerry's Nugget $1 (white with 4 orange triangles and 418... whatever they call that pattern) awesome chips, not leaded and harvest able from my understanding (if not used racks usually go for around $250 - $300 and minty about $400) the issue there is that it is hard to find a $5 to compliment/trump that $1. Many have tried including Brie and I.

Far from a perfect line up... but it works and we needed a bunch of $1s to cover atleast 2 tables. (The blues are actually snappers but being shaped inlay couldn't murder them so we play them as quarters) and yes we plan to murder the Jerry's and make them Foundation $1s.

But again back to my point above, the rest of this set is extreme leadedand supposedly the $1s are NOT but still at 10g fit in just fine.

The good thing with your $1s... if you keep them $1s then you have lots of options on $5s as you don't need any crazy spot patterns to progess..

Just from an academic / science perspective (and I hope you know I’m not bashing your chips) this just goes to show that different people focus on different things. I had those Jerry’s $1s in a mixed set (where the other chips were leaded THCs) and I had to get rid of them. The entire chip felt so different (meaning the clay felt different and the inlay felt different) that I just couldn’t tolerate it. And I had been so excited to get those chips. I paid a new harvester (who later, sadly, screwed over a bunch of PCFers) in advance, to get those chips for me. They looked so good, I thought they’d be the perfect solution for THC $1. But for me, personal requirements for feel and sound are so specific that I needed them out of my house. Weird. But as we’ve said, when it comes to chips, it’s a good thing we all have different taste. (Except for you two - you guys seem to love ALL the chips.)
