For the denoms $100/$500/$1000/$5000 do starting stacks of 10/6/6/2, that's 20k each, 400k in play. It will probably end no later than the 10k/20k level, at which point the $100, $500 and $1000 chips will have been colored off. The total value that's colored off is (10×$100+6×$500+6×$1000)×20=$200k, which is easily covered with the extra $5k and $10k chips.

If you want rebuys you'll have to reduce the stacksizes and therefore have shallower stacks. Just remember that you have to be able to cover the total chip count with the $5k and $10k chips (since all others will be colored off), i.e. you can't give out more than $500k total in startingstacks + rebuys. An example could be $10k stacks (10/6/6) with 1 rebuy OR add-on per player. That limits the total chip count to $400k, but you'll only start 100BB deep.

Levels:
100/100
100/200
100/300
200/400
(standard from here, but I'll give an example)
300/600
400/800
600/1200
800/1600
Color off $100
1000/2000
1500/3000
Color off $500
2k/4k
3k/6k
4k/8k
6k/12k
8k/16k
Color off $1000
10k/20k (should end before or during this level)
15k/30k
etc...

Now just calculated the level durations and breaks to fit your tournament length. :)

No problem! :) I was just worried if you would be able to read it in time!

How did it go, did everything run smoothly? Which structure did you end up using? It's never fun to have to make last minute changes like that.

just a curious question with 20k starting stacks and 2 tables how long did your tourney run for or what blind level did it end at?

The most chips I have given players at 1 time was 10k with blind levels starting at 25/50.... Those games go on for hours and hours.... I like them though but many players seem to enjoy the 2-3hr tourney to cash game scenario when I am playing/hosting. Mostly I do 1500-3000 with rebuys or 3000-5000 sit and go no rebuy tourneys. Its been so long that I have played in that structure I don't really know what would happen starting with just 100's as the lowest number hence my question on length of the game.

I wasn't there ;-) but I can give a general answer that it depends on the structure and level duration. Having longer levels will of course lengthen the tournament, but it will also (generally) make the tournament end at an earlier level.

The "rule of thumb" is that the tournament ends no later than the level during which there are about 20 BBs in play left on the table (if you use antes it's perhaps around 30). However, if it's a turbo there's a good chance that the tournament survives past that level. And conversely, if you have long levels and a slow progression it will likely end on an earlier level. The reasons are a) that more hands get played allowing more opportunities for crippling or eliminating players, and b) the so called "f#ckit, let's gambool" factor in fatigued players.

My tourneys have about 20 +/-5 players, they are planned for 5.5 hours and usually end with 30-50 BBs in play. Had I structured them for fewer hours they would probably end with fewer BBs in play.

The simple answer is that you would just multiple everything with 4 (with small adjustments). 10k stacks starting at 25/50 is equivalent to 40k stacks starting at 100/200.

However, it's common to use lopsided levels in tournaments with base T100, like in my reply above. That's why T100 base sets are (rather unfairly IMO) tributed to allow for fewer chips and keeping the lowest chip in play for longer than other bases. This is less about the base and more about the lopsided levels. The same thing can be achieved with a T25 base if you start with the levels 25/25, 25/50, 25/75 (known around the globe as the so called "BG-level"), 50/100, then normal i.e. 75/150, 100/200 etc...

Actually I read it, had everything set up and only 7 ppl showed up due to weather. We ended up playing a cash game. But this was great to know
