Welcome to PCF!

As far as your color question...
1) you will always have your basic White $1, Red $5, Green $25, Black $100, Purple $500 on the cash side, it also follows what the majority of casinos are required to do outside of California.

Tournament standard Red T5, Green T25, Black T100, Purple T500, Yellow T1000, Gray T5000, Blue T25000

2) Then you have the wild Cali color Scheme that does have a standard of Red $.25, Peach $.50, Blue $1, Yellow $5, Purple or Black $20 or $25, White $100 like this

But they often change up and order whatever they want! Some use a green $1, some a green frac.

But those are generally the colors used.

Then you get into customs and really there are no rules... whatever you like! Personally I think it breaks down into 3 groups of colors... some overlap, some go completely outside the box... but the 3 categories I break it down to is.

1) Retro... darker old school colors that often resemble an old school gambling hall...

To some they lack the "wow" factor... but to many of us it represents the old times... maybe family gambling in yester years. A perfect example of Retro colors in my opinion is on @k9dr Suicide Queen chips

Hot stamped fracs, old school shaped inlays, even the inlays have a faded background to give the appearance of "vintage" for some (myself included) it doesn't get much better than that!

2) The second "group" of colors I call the Pastels... I always think of Easter Eggs

when people choose these color Schemes and when done right they are absolutely amazing! Bright and inviting... but not over the top "sun glasses" required to play. A well executed example again in my opinion would be my buddy Jason's @wonderpuddle "Slim's" and even has a bunny on them!

Bright colors yes... but stays within the pallet of pastel. Another example would be @Rbonus012 "Castaways"

Nothing super bright, but overall just a beautiful cohesive clash of pastel colors executed perfectly... again in my opinion.

3. The third category would be Super Bright and Loud! Look at me!! Sun glasses required category and often the "crowd favorite" aka "taste the rainbow" skittles type colors or....

Many here argue that CPC (the only company still making clay chips for the public) simply can not compete with Paulsons colors... on some levels that is true, like the recent Tigers Palace series

Photo borrowed by @Rieguy ... and just one of many different beautiful and bright color schemes that came from that set. But some will argue that CPC is still up to the task, shown here and perfectly executed by @Eloe2000 the "Casa Mangos'

One of my favorite customs of all time! Beautiful bright colors that accent each other to perfection... do not fool yourself, this took an insane number of hours to combine and make perfect and many folks have been trying to replicate ever since.

In my opinion those are the basic color groups. Lots of ideas on colors there... but again remember if going "custom" there are no rules! Do what makes you happy!

Best of luck on your chipping journey, always around if I can ever be of assistance (or likely know the right people that can assist)
