Hello there.

I am not only a passionate poker player, but also a passionate chip enthusiast from Germany.
A little over one year ago I upgraded my set of dice chips to a set of medium quality clay chips for our irregular, micro stakes home games. Those unfortunately have some flaws that I initially didn't notice, the most obvious one being that a lot of my friends struggle to tell apart the 5ct and 25ct chips in dark light conditions (I don't have this problem, which is why I didn't notice it before ordering them).

Fortunately, I am now in a situation in which I can afford to spend some money on a set of high quality chips, and that's why I decided to make an account here after lurking for 2 years.
So yeah, hello everyone!

Hello and welcome!

0.05 and 0.25 casino clay in large quantities can be quite challenging to find. Maybe you will find better luck either relabeling some chips you like, or getting some custom chips made.

Yeah, that for sure is a problem. Right now my idea is to get some custom CPC Clays. But then the problem with getting a micro stakes set still is that 70% of your chips will be 5ct and 25ct chips, which are pretty much useless in any reasonably sized game. I personally would love to play 1/2, but I couldn't even get my friends to play 10ct/ 25ct so far.
Also, it feels kind of stupid to spend $2 on a $0.05 chip.

Hmm...for your 0.05, I suggest you use something clay but non-denominational, such as a Starburst or maybe a solid roulette chip. You should be able to get some that are colour-matched and in reasonably good (maybe even near mint) condition. You could do the same with 0.25, just in a different colour. Save your expensive CPCs for full dollar denoms, like your 1, 5, and 20/25. Remember, minimum 300 chip order gets you 3 denoms.

In general that's not a bad idea, but I don't like the idea of playing with chips of 2 different sets.
One option I'm considering would be to just ignore the game we have going at the moment and just create a set for (possibly 25ct,) 1€, 5€, 25€ and 100€ chips with, or maybe I could create a bigger set the would work for anything from 5ct/ 10ct to 1€/2€. Then I would have to pay for quite a lot of extra chips, but I would have pretty much any size covered.

Welcome to the forum. Good taste is priceless, so using expensive chips to represent actual nano values (that happens in low buy-in tournaments anyway) is perfectly OK for the chip aficionado.:)
You wish your game to grow, in terms of stakes, but this may not happen soon.
To have a set for all possible circumstances, go with one Non-Denominated chip which can represent any value as required, plus 1-5-20-100 denominated chips. The latter can be meant to represent dimes instead of Euros, in the current situation you 're in.
With a minimum of 100xNDs, 200x1s, 200x5s, 80x20s and 20x100s (600 chips), you can play any stakes from 0.05/0.10 to 1/2 with 8-9 players.

If 70% of your chips are those 2 denominations then you’re likely doing it wrong

I don't think so. I have 150x 5ct, 200x 25ct, 100x 1€ and 50x 5€.
For our 5ct/10ct game, this works very well, and I can't think of any changes I would want to do to those numbers.

hi pocketquads, were are you from? which city?
and did you bougth finaly a micro stakes set?

Hey there :)
I am from Munich (just like you as it appears).

At the moment, my heart is still fighting against my brain when it comes to ordering a custom set. On the one hand, I really want to. On the other hand though, spending what would probably be ~$2k on a set of chips that I will hardly even use in the foreseeable future is quite a lot of money.

Take your time with the purchase. Get the designs and colors exactly how you want them. Spare no expense, but be patient and save up longer if you need to. Follow this and you’ll have no regrets.
