Has anyone met a poker pro? (2 Viewers)

NFL pro? Punter.
I’ve definitely seen him do some punting. :ROFLMAO:

We had a friend who used to bring Amir Vahedi to our game before he passed. He was every bit of himself as he was on TV as he was in our $40 tournament. We used to do 3 table tournaments with no rebuys, but he requested special permission to rebuy and he never disappointed. Cigar in his mouth, creating action, happy, and respectful. One great dude, and hopefully resting in peace.

He was big in the ‘07 main event, right? Or am I thinking of another guy?
2003 Bracelet winner, and got some decent coverage in the money maker run and the years following. He was a great character for the cameras.

We played with him around the years 2005/2006.

I have never played with any, but I've met a few at the WSOP Main Event. Here's my experience over the past few years.

Negreanu is awesome and takes time to chat with everybody. He even stopped in the middle of an interview to walk over and sign hats for me and a woman that were patiently waiting for him.

Scotty is awesome as well. I ran into him a couple of times, but was a bit pissed at myself that I didn't ask him if I could buy him a shot.

I remember DNegs went to some kids' .25/.50 game before their senior year ended, that was cool

Scotty is in my top 3 favorite players along with the Tilly/Laak couple

I've met my fair share and played with some as well, my list includes:

Daniel Negreanu
Humberto Brenes
Michael Mizrachi
Men "The Master"
John Robert Bellande
Mike Matusow
Doug Polk
Andrew Neeme
Ryan "Degenerate Gambler" DePaulo
BetOnDrew
Jeff Boski
Paul Darden
Chris Moneymaker
Greg Raymer

I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm just drawing a blank at the moment. I mean, but in all reality I should be on their list since they met ME! :p

How Was JRB? I remember watching him on Survivor and he was so annoying and creepy

I dealt to a lot of pros during the WSOP but that doesn't really count. I was dealing at a table with so many pros playing PLO that had a 3 pot multi way chop that I couldn't figure out! D Negs told me how to chop it. That was rough. Daniel is one of the friendliest players I've dealt to at the tables. I've taken pics with The Mouth while he's eating a slice of pepperoni pizza. I've played against The Grinder in his old bounty tournament. Took a pot from him with the nut royal flush. I pee'd next to Matt Damon in the back of the house men's room at The Rio while Don Cheadle was in a stall next to me. I wanted to take a pic but their security suggested it was not a good time. lol

My wife and I just walked past him in a casino hallway one day and said hello, we didn't really stop to chat or anything so it was a "short" interaction but he seemed nice enough.

I'd say the nicest pro I've met thus far was Greg Raymer, always seems happy to talk to folks, seems pretty down to earth and humble.

I met Helmuth at the WSOP, as they bagged up for the night. I gotta say, he was among the most pleasant and friendly people that I have ever sought an autograph from.

Perhaps he was doing well, and that affects his mood. Perhaps the asshole persona is generated for the tv cameras. I don't know or really care. He was no @Anthony Martino. Helmuth doesn't keep his wife in Hello Kitty gear, so he's not really a pro.

Played a couple hours with Johnny Vibes on my right two summers ago in one of the big field WSOP events - super nice guy.

Played in the Andrew Neeme/Brad Owen meetup game at Graton a couple years ago, had Brad at my table for an hour or so.

Met Negreanu at Stones and had Jonathan Little commentate on a $1/2 Stones Live stream game I played on which was pretty cool, even though I donked it up.

Chatted with Matt Berkey a bit at the series a few years ago, also a super genuine guy in person

Not a famous one but a younger math teacher that started playing with us during the boom ended up going pro and still is.

The guys barely knew how to play Hold’em but starting winning a bunch of our tournaments within the first two years. He played in some of our $2/5 cash games as of 2019 but haven’t seen him since.

People stopped inviting him to games…not because he was a pro but because he barely said hi or bye, never said thanks, and didn’t speak to anyone

These players are the worst, sitting with their perpetual scowls and never engaging in social interactions at the tables. It's like all the fucking Euros who moved here to TX.

I play pretty cash games pretty regularly with Moneymaker when he's not traveling for the tournaments/promotional events. He keeps to himself and often has headphones on at the table, but occasionally when the game is good and he's feeling lime chatting he's a nice guy to have at the table (plus gives tons of action).

Robert Williamson III is a reg at the Phoenix area casino and home mixed games. He tried to wrangle an invite to my last meetup, apparently.

Played O8 at Venetian with Jeff Madsen years ago. He started calling out my entire 4 card hand about 2 hours in and I racked up. Fantastically good Omaha8 player back in the day, won a couple bracelets I think.

James Woods a few times at 5/10 NL at Foxwoods and once in a $1500 Dealers Choice WSOP event for 10 hours where we got into a lot of stud8 together, oddly.

Raymer at a FARGO tourney and 2 or 3 times at the 8/16 Mixed (“Coach’s Game”) at Resorts World LV.

I told Darvin Moon to fuck off at a EPT event at Foxwoods years ago when he told his wife I’d be out of the tourney soon because I was down to 2 chips. I cashed 5th, eat a bag of dicks, Darvin.

Moneymaker played the same tourney. He was HAMMERED but fun at the 1/2 NL cash games.

Jon Turner (pearljammer) ran over me at the $1500 Dealer’s Choice at WSOP last year. 6 handed and Dnegs walks by and says hi to 4 of us (obv not me). I was completely fucked at that table. I forget the other pros there but I was texting friends with pictures and names and they were like “yeah you’re fucked”.

We had Jonathan Bloch (brother of Andy Bloch) in my home circus game back East for a while. He played maybe 4 sessions with us. Had some good stories but he wasn’t very good at circus games.

I ran into Phil Hellmuth at Paris at the WSOP this year and almost flattened him. He said “whoa, hey buddy” to me and then went and won a bracelet that night. Still waiting for my call to run into him again next year for good luck.

We played with 6 or 7 of the November 9 at a EPT event at Foxwoods a few months after that year’s WSOP. I think it was 2013 or 2014.

After he busted the main in 8th in 2019, I ended up in a late night mixed dealers choice 10/20 game with Timothy Su and 5 of his friends from Boston. We ended up playing a lot of Indian Poker where you put the card on your forehead. Worked out great because we were all laughing our asses off and if they looked at me and stopping laughing I knew I had a good card. Fantastically fun game, whole crew were good guys.

Bernard Lee a few times at Foxwoods. Pretty nondescript.

Jonathan Little, Eli Elezra, and Rampage played in a mixed 4/8 limit festival at Resorts World that Robbie Strazynski from Cardplayer Lifestyle puts on semi-regularly. He gets some pros to stop by and play and it’s actually a ton of fun. You’d be surprised how many NLHE pros like Little have no idea what they’re doing in mixed games. One of most fun times I’ve had in a casino. My stomach hurt from laughing an hour in. Eli is friends with Robby and Robby apparently helped write his autobiography so he often drops in. He obviously plays solid.

I feel like I’m missing a couple. I’m sure whoever I missed cleaned my clock and stacked me.

Ran into Scotty at an absolute dive bar in front of Imperial Palace many moons ago. He had won a WPT event the week before, so we discussed that, and he showed off the bracelet. He was just like on TV…humorous, gracious and extremely friendly.

Also spent some time with the First Lady of Poker, Linda Johnson. She was extremely kind, and I think she felt flattered that I knew who she was. She seemed very genuine.
