over a year ago a member asked for a rack out of cosmo. Their minimums are way to high to risk grinding at the tables so I need to just beg for them here and there. So I start at the cage, hoping to get lucky. I ask for a rack. I go back and forth with the cashier. She calls the supervisor. They end up saying no, but it was a big deal made out of saying no. At the end I said, well can I get like ten or twenty for souvenirs. That didn't go over well and they said no, go to the tables. So I went out to the tables and must have asked at least a dozen dealers for 5 or 10 or 20 chips. Saying I need them for souvenirs and tips. A few of them ask the floor. A few say no. A few hand them over. I end up getting about 70 the first night. The next day I figure I'll try day shift, new faces. So I show up at 9am, head to the cage, ask for 20 chips as souvenirs, and then the lady looks at me wide eyed like she just saw a ghost and then this happens...

"You would not believe this! I just read a memo before my shift started, saying that we cannot sell any amount of chips for souvenirs. That is the craziest thing. I've never seen anything like it."
at this point she was just amazed at the coincidence and I don't think she felt I was the cause.
"wow. that is crazy. So I guess you can't give me any chips?"
"no, I'm sorry."
I walk away thinking holy shit. I'm pretty sure that was because of me. Then I walk to an open craps table, because I still need to fill up this rack to get paid. I throw a $20 down and ask for a stack of ones. dealer immediately calls floor, and floor looks me dead in the eyes and says "you can't do this anymore" I grab my $20 and head out... So it seemed like table games got that memo too.

Thats another joint I don't frequent too often after that day. :(

So again, apologies for newbie continual dumb questions and such -

Are the Paris chips desirable at the moment because they're a new batch, due to WPT? Meaning - minty chips?

They've always been sought after as a potential frac/$1 because of color and spots, they fit with many different sets with a re/overlable.

The increased desire comes from that they've always been difficult to nab, and at this moment with the local events, they are easily obtained in mass quantity (driving down cost).

It doesn't hurt that they are minty along with the fact that prices have skyrocketed over the past 2-3 years and seem to rise with each coming month.

For my personal view, I have always wanted a Paris chip set after living there for a year as my kids loved it.

Yes, I think so. But it is an all-around popular chip because it is THC.

But TBH there are lots of nice live $1 on the strip that are THC. Jerry's Nugget, Circus Circus, Venetian, Casino Royale, Silver Seven, one can go on and on.

For people who are building sets: Is anyone planning on using the Paris $2s as a frac? Or is mixing molds just too much of a no-no

They’re more likely to be crappy plastics though right? Abbiati type stuff
Not really, actually very nice bud Jones or Abbiati chips. Also the progression of the sizes are quite nice. Think they have something that is in between 39mm and 43mm as well.

Often for tournaments they use ceramics..

Mixing molds is only a no-no if you say it is. I have tons of different racks that I use for my mixed sets. I use house molds with thc chips and no one says a thing!

Everyone has an opinion, as David says it's whatever you determine.

I think that a lot of chippers agree on trying to maintain similar condition though. And those $2s are going to wear wildly differently than those $1s. I say this just in bringing them home and seeing how the chips hold up compared to each other. Cage dropped a rack of $1s, handed them over, they looked as good as ever. Dropped a dead mint rack of $2s, was enough damage to them that I ended up cashing it in and switching for another.

But if you aren't getting the set into play 50+ times a year or people aren't wildly dropping chips all over a ceramic tiled floor, maybe you won't notice.

edit: because I didn't answer, I think they work just fine as a frac.

Maybe your presence at the poker table is so intimidating/aggressive that everybody else is too scared to mention it.

Next day, I show up to the same table early swing shift. So it was slower and only two guys playing, one on each end. As I'm walking up, cash in hand, I lock eyes with the box man. He looks at me and says pretty loud, "you again, do you want all ones?!?!" this first dealer was kind of joking. Didn't seem to care. Then I look at the other two dealers and notice they are the same exact staff from the night before. And the other two are staring daggers at me. I'm thinking, what the fuck is going on here. Then before the dealer even starts to cut out my chips, the floor man says "hold on!" then he scolds me in front of the other two players and dealers at the table. he says... pretty much word for word in a very angry tone "we had to have security come down and surveillance had to see where all of our chips went." Then I don't really remember what he said after that, because I was trying not to have a mini stroke. And this is all still while a game is going on and the stick man is still holding the dice. Not too long, but long enough for the dice to get cold and the other two players to wonder what the hell is happening.
I would have been S$%**#$% Bricks.

Ive had like around 50 in my pockets at Sams town and Ellis Island at the craps table, usually a busy table, and look at the one's disappearing from the table and I think to myself they have to be wondering where they are going. Now I know.

I was at the flamingo and decided to roll one time, and struck up a quick convo with the Stickman and basically started talking about the chips and having plastic chips in with the live chips that looked completely different, and told him I'm trying to get as many ones as I can, He said he could help a little. Probably doesn't hurt (actually NEVER Hurts) when you place a bet for the dealers on your first bet.

Man sounds like I was there when you all were there, thought about it but never did it. Walked in a couple times to just check out the room. I swear If I saw someone stuffing chips would have been GAME ON!

At Harrah's, we did the did chip runs ourselves. That was even worse. Not only do I have to carry that large bird cage, but now I'm down one hand if something happened
Were you allowed to put down the chips if something happened? Or was the rule to never let go, hell or high water?
