The poker scheme, which used X-ray tables to read cards face down, wireless devices and chip tray analyzers, was tied to the Italian mafia, La Cosa Nostra.

Cheaters are going to cheat. I'm sure a dm2 was used but it doesnt specifically say or even if they used the exploit or just added a camera.

The original hack reads and sorted cards. The article only specifies that the off the shelf shuffler devices was only reading.

But then why would they need cameras on the tables to read cards?

I haven't read the Wired article, but I watched their video on YouTube about it ... Was fascinating.

They basically set up a game and showed how it would work in real life.

Then the news today broke about the FBI bust...

If they really used X-Ray, I wonder if most of the players (and dealers) will have sterility and cancer issues in the not too distant future. Being exposed to X-Ray radiation for hours on end is not a healthy thing.

However the term X-Ray in this case is doubtful, and is likely a dumbed down explanation that fits well in a sound bite. UV or IR marked cards and a UV or IR camera is a more likely explanation (IMO).

Looks like a very overhauled dm2 with a device hard wired in. Not sure if law enforcement unplugged all the sensors or if the bad guys didnt even use it at all with this setup.

I dont have my dm2 with me so I cant even tell if they used a completely different motherboard but it also looks like they have wires soldered from the board coming out.

In this video he says the rigged dm2 is in the hundred thousands. Also explains some of the more accessible cheats.
