@Cratty I'm all for hearing design thoughts/considerations on the Lucky's chips!
I think you're right on to not care about mass appeal. That is not a parameter to design around in my opinion.
Most of the things I may question or ask about are simply because we have seen other sets recently and I would've ideally liked to see things most unlike the previous sets. But, I think it's okay to take a theme and design in a vacuum and not impose limitations because of other chip set spots and colors. So, these are not criticisms, but just my desires and/or questions for personal curiosity.
1) I love the spot pattern on the frac even though it's the same as the Faro Dunes frac. Oh well! I'm not big on brown chips, but it is a good frac color and I am anxious to see the bronze clay in person. I have a feeling I'm going to really like this chip! the spot pattern perfectly complements the 3 coin stamp and the colors are very earthy...I can't imagine ever getting tired of this look.
2) I like a non-standard $1, so I'm cool with the Lucky's arc dollar and wanting to see the stamp in person. I think I'll love this chip in play. That said, we have gotten other arc chips recently, so I would've rather seen something else. And, a different spot pattern would've been preferred or at least multi-color spots. But, I am seeing this chip is a huge crowd favorite and arc yellow is an amazing color so definitely not sad about it.
3) I absolutely love the $5! The dragon stamp and red/gold/yellow feels perfect and that spot pattern is cool to see utilized! The only thing I wonder is that Paulson has so many different red colors and we already saw royal red on the Faro $5. Still, keystone chip of the set and is truly great!
4) I love 3D14 and 4D14 chips. That said, the Lucky's $25 is a repeat spot pattern of the Faro $25 with so many other cool spot patterns in the Paulson arsenal. At the end of the day, a nice clean watermelon chip is all good by me anyhow! The cat stamp NEEDED to be on this chip...possibly best chip of the set if we never saw the $5...LOL!
5) I love the use of navy for the $100. It is functionally black and fills the role, but a nice little twist. Once again, spot pattern is the same as the Faro $100 and colors/spots are almost identical to the Rancho $20. These things are not bad at all, but would've liked to see something different. That said, if this is in a vacuum the Buddha 8 points, etc. thematically is great! Maybe bolder neon colors for the spots, but that might clash too hard with the navy base.
So, you can see most of my thoughts are just around repeat spots/colors from other recent sets and not really fair to impose on this one. I can see that this set could easily become my favorite of them all, but time will tell. I really love the Faro frac and blue dollar in play. The Rancho color scheme is bold and unique, so has a place of it's own. The 43mm cash set is simply elegant and classy. This Lucky's theme is probably the best of them all and your work on the stamps is truly the centerpiece!
Also, in my mind I wouldn't want a red felt with red $5 chip in play, but I already know I am going to love the Lucky's felt with the Lucky's chips and the gold/bronze accessories (cut cards/button) are icing on the cake. This whole setup will be glorious!
