Just wanted to take a minute to say hello, have been a poker enthusiast since I played my first game 18 years ago in what possibly may be the dingiest basement known to man. Have not looked back since then. Most of my play is online, with some live sprinkled in when I have some time off work. I was recently reminiscing about all the good times and memories my buds and I had in that dingy basement, and thought I would like to start up a weekly home game. ( in a less dingy setting of course ) Unsure how many of the old faces would make it out these days but I'm hopeful I can recruit at least 6 on a weekly basis. The thought of starting a home game got me thinking about purchasing a table and my research led me Tchan, which led me here, and lets just say I have caught the chip disease. All these years playing and I never realized what a work of art a stack, or even better an entire set can be. I have spent a few night shifts going through numerous posts and it seems like a really good community with a bunch of great people willing to share knowledge and help new chippers like me. I have a long way to go and a lot to learn ( and a few overtime shifts to work ), but I am pretty excited and cant wait to get started on this new adventure. Also wanted to say thanks for everything I've learned so far and all the beautiful pictures you guys have posted, without you guys I'd be ordering a set dice chips and oblivious to the beauty of the hobby.

Great post. Let's get some info out of you so people here can guide you to build what you need. Chip efficiency saves money, money saved can buy more chips for another set. Do you play cash or tournament do you think in the future? What stakes will you be playing? What's your budget for chips, and last but not least have you bought samples of anything yet?

Welcome! I dont think the poker bug ever leaves any of us, we always come back! Are you looking to set up a weekly tournament or cash game?? Our forum is blessed with so many wonderful people and chips, its a great place to keep epic chipsets changing hands between people who will love and care for them!!
Hope everything works out for your home game, you will be very happy with a tchan table!

Thank you guys so much for the warm welcomes!

I have a bit of a predicament when to comes to choosing between starting with a cash set vs tourney set. Personally for me I'd like to organize a 1-2 NLHE cash game and eventually I would love to find a group of PLO players and perhaps run a game bi weekly or monthly ( I was thinking .50-1 for blinds ). However the group I play home games with these days seem interested in playing tourneys, never any talk of cash. Don't get me wrong I like a good tourney as much as the next guy, but for some reason over the years I've gravitated towards playing cash. I assume this is because the local casino run tournaments with pretty horrible structures so most of the time cash is the only game in town for me. (aside for the quarterly tourney my friends play) So keeping that in mind I think I will start off trying to build a cash set. My dream is to one day have a beautiful mixed Vegas like the ones some of you guys have posted that I spend way too much time drooling over while I'm at work. As far as budget goes I have spent a lot of time looking at my options and like some of the CC options from Apache, and even considered trying to start that route with maybe a custom label project, but when I figured in the cost of shipping and the conversion from CAD to USD I'm almost thinking of going with the buy once cry once model.

Up to this point I have just been looking at ideas and trying to read as much as possible. I have a holiday coming up in a few days, making my bi annually pilgrimage Vegas to play cards for more hours than I care to admit. I generally try to move around try to get into as many card rooms as possible so the plan is to get my hands on some chips and hopefully that will give me a better idea of exactly what I'd like my first set to look like. Maybe I can get the ball rolling with a few racks of 1s, I have a few in mind that have caught my eye.

So that's kind of where I'm at in my new chipping adventure, I'm looking forward the journey that's for sure! Thanks again guys for the warm welcome!
