Greetings from Yuma, AZ where it was only 108F today.

I am a long time craps player and am looking to create an eventual full craps table set of $1's, $5's, $25's, $100's, $500, $1000 and $5000 chips.

When researching, I finally found this forum and have been reading and learning a lot about game play chips. Thank you.

I have collected table chips from casinos as a hobby for years but have never had the need for a full table set, until now.

At the moment, I am looking at several options and thought I'd throw them out here for observation and/or comment.

I am currently waiting on samples to consider the Claysmith Milano and the Apache Poker Chips Majestic. I then decided to explore more considering the Paulson Classic and the Aurora Star series as well, but I think the Paulson chips are a bit out of my price range.

Eventually I would like to customize the insert to my own design and thought that since the Milano and the Majestic can be obtained blank, that would let me add my own vinyl label later, or buy them with the current label then peel and replace later.

Thank you for your comments and consideration.

Welcome! Way to start off on the right foot! If you have a liking for clay poker chips you can also try CPC, they offer custom inlays as well as customizable chip colors.

Hmm curious what the usual craps breakdown is. A rack each of the low denoms and a couple barrels each of $500+?

Obviously, the answer is going to depend on stakes and number of players, but I think this breakdown is wise (because more chips!):

Looks like

640x$1
800x$5
800x$25
320x$100
80x$500

Better to be safe than sorry...

I think it’s a very wide range that is dependent on multiple factors. It depends on how many shooters your table can support and what table limits you allow. Also how experienced and/or aggressive your players can influence the set breakdown.

I’m currently building a craps table and the set I’m working on has
320 $1s
480 $5s
240 $25s
100 $100s
20 $500s

Can’t speak to Majestics but Milano labels come right off - if you want a color that isn’t offered as a blank that’s no problem. I had Gear make me nickel Milano stickers too.

Unfortunately, nobody I play poker with is cool enough for micro stakes they want to play .25/.25 but someday I’m getting them into play, once we’re able to have home games again.

As we always say here, get samples. I would strongly recommend Majestics. They are a newer generation of “China clay” chip and the label adhesive and coloring of the label and chip itself seem to be much more durable. I think you will find that they feel much better in your hand as well. Since these chips and related accessories like high denomination plaques are currently so,d in retail it is very easy to rebuy etc.

I will just mention two other alternatives:

1. @ABC Gifts and Awards/ @BR Pro Poker offer completely customizable ceramic chips that would require no work on your part in terms of applying labels. They can also make the labels for you blank Majestics as well.

2. There are some sets like casino used chips or even newer sets of actual casino RHC Paulsons like Aransas Queen which go for on average just a little over $1 each.

Hello and welcome!

Before making such a huge investment, I would echo the "get samples" statement!

You will also find lots of ideas on how other forum members have used customized graphics their own sets, whether they designed their own, or used a professional graphic designer to help (not to mention all the choices and options with the chip base itself). Don't rush!

Thank you so much for all of your greetings and words of encouragement.

I don't know why but I just like clay chips better than ceramics. I guess the heavily faded Chipco's I have seen in the casinos have kind of turned me off to them. I don't want my nice chips fading to nothingness as they get slid across the felt over and over.

I was looking at the "less expensive" THC Paulsons and saw an ad for the Santa Ysabel chips. I visited that casino a few years ago and those were the exact chips being used in the casino. Question: did that casino close and how did member "navels" get all those chips? I thought chips had to be destroyed after a casino closed or if they changed them out for new/different.

Thanks all for your patience and information as I learn more about chips.

Edit: I looked on ChipGuide and the casino closed in 2014. So how does someone buy up the chips from a closed casino? Thanks.

Greetings again

Based on your great input and the resources in this forum, I am well on my way to creating my cool craps chip set. I have decided to relabel the blue Majestic to a $1, and the orange to a $1000. the 5, 25, 100, and 500 will remain the same. I am expecting my samples to be delivered Monday, and am ready to process an order for the labels with Chris @Gear. I received my Milano samples today and at first look was underwhelmed. They appear "powdery" and the colors are very pastel. I am hoping for more color from the Majestics. In my Milano order, I also got a sample set of "The Mint" from Claysmith. I like the colors better than the pastel Milanos, but I don't like metal insert chips. If I were on a stricter budget, the Mints would work fine with some relabling, but if you are going to increase your cost with labels, you might as well get better chips.

More later after the Majestics (and the big big sample pack) from Apachie arrives on Monday.

What games do they have where I would be able to try and get some of those 1$ chips?

Welcome!!

I’ve always wondered how one plays craps (or blackjack for that matter) in a home setting. Do you play against the other players? Tournament style?

I would think that any game in the casino with a 1$ bonus bet like let it ride or three card would be the likeliest place to harvest 1$'s No?

Blackjack is easy, you can pass a banker button like the Indians used to do in cali. the "Banker can either limit the per hand bets or not. Still need a dealer to administrate the game. whoever wins gets paid by that person, whoever looses pays that person. Craps at home, even with us craps deigns that have a 14 foot table in the game room is a bit more challenging as you need at least two dealers to run a fun game. then there's the challenge of are you playing for real or fun

So far mine has been used to practice my “toss”, working a strategy, or dealing as host and basically teaching the game. My table is only 8’ so can be delt by one person.

I’ve never played those. But how easy would it Ben to harvest ones on those games?

seems such a high volume of singles runs at the table and they give you 10 right away on a buy in........

I use my table for practice, so far. Haven't had the table long enough to have the opportunity to have guests over for a craps night. (I have a new 14 foot custom table I got at Thanksgiving)

I figured I'd have everyone buy in for $5, give them $500 in chips and play like it was a penny game.

Most people i know at home don't know how to play, so I would be dealer and teacher.
