7-chip black velvet/felt insert in an 8x10 frame. The insert was a custom request (I believe from Tiny Treasures (now Games and Frames)) and the frame was from Michaels.

Check out floating frames on Amazon. I have a bunch for sample sets and they work great.

Something like this is another idea if you want to mess with them and see both sides.
I could make a 7 slot.

What holds the chips in place? Are there cutouts in the felt?

Are there cutouts in the felt?

Yes. It's a foamcore-type of board with black felt adhered to one face. Holes are then cut all the way through, then a thin chipboard-type of material is adhered to the full face on the other side.

Chips fit snugly in the holes, sandwiched between the chipboard backing and the glass.
