Today I'm putting up for sale a rack of very good condition casino used 25c fracs from Rivers Des Plaines. They're not new, or even minty, as there are flea bites on many chips and rack check marks on a few chips, but the chips all stand on edge readily on any point along the edge, and the hotstamps are all in good shape, which makes them "very good" casino used in my book. Anyway, I think they're pretty, and they're fracs, and who doesn't love fracs?

I'm asking $270 $260 $250 shipped CONUS, paid by PPFF/Zelle/Venmo. For OCONUS buyers, shipping is not included and transport beyond carrier drop-off is at your risk.

Cool chips! Question though, do these chips come in several different diameters? Or have they worn down at different rates? I'm referring to the way they sit in the photo in the rack where they're not all sitting evenly.

@TX_Golf_N_Poker That's a great question, I saw the diameter differences and didn't think much of it. Mintier chips from this casino don't exhibit this diameter difference, so I think must have worn down at different rates. I just measured a mint single in calipers and got 39.16mm, while the shorter chips in this set (I found the smallest chip in each barrel) run between 38.83mm to 38.96mm. That said, wear removing 0.3mm of diameter seems like a lot for chips with edges this crisp. I sampled a couple of the smaller chips and looked at the rounded/beveled area at the edge of each chip, but only the outer 0.27mm begins to round away from the flat top of the chip. It almost seems that these chips were edge conditioned, but why?!

Those chips are pretty light
They seem to wear easier maybe?

But the small difference in stacks in play would be almost impossible to tell
In racks it seems to be magnified from tiny differences

Did you get these directly from the casino, or were they harvested by someone else. Because I suspect you have hit on the "how." I would guess that the smaller diameter ones may have been edge conditioned in order to make a worn "bike tire" look newer and sharper. It would almost have to have been done by whomever harvested them, as the casino wouldn't give a rip.

I got these from the casino directly, and haven't tried to edge condition at all. Looking at images posted by @HaRDHouSeiNC , it looks like this diameter variation is not uncommon. I don't think the chips at Rivers have seen enough play to be bike tires at any denomination, so it'd be very odd to me that someone would feel the need to edge-condition those chips and then return them for face value. The only thing I can think is if the casino used some kind of abrasive cleaning during the early COVID days, maybe as the chips sat in the dealer's rack, since the chips are very close to equal in height (within my measurement error of around 10 micron), meaning they only abraded the smallest surface on the chip.

Yeah, if you harvested them yourself then it's not likely they were edge conditioned by anyone else. It's just so weird, since I've never seen something like that on other Paulson chips of similar amount of overall wear.

This IS a factor on some BCC cigar and snifter mold chips, and I believe it has been attributed to differences in the manufacturing process. But I'm of the impression that it's not common with Paulson.

I guess it will remain a mystery...
