So I had posted a while ago about hosting 1 - 1 games in college 8 handed, looking for a 500 chip set around the 200 dollar mark, not opposed to it being less though.

I had originally wanted to go with something like outlaws but after going down the rabbit hole I am torn between a few things.

NexGen remixes, theres a minute long youtube video talking about how his lightly sanded nexgens are his favorite chips aside from his paulsons.
pros:
- cheap like 24 cents a chip
- not brittle
cons:
- somewhat ugly

Casino royales are also supposed to be the same price and "decent chips" same as the monte carlos, outlaws, slowplays, unicorns --> can't really get a consesus here.

Also considered just splurging on getting some Tinas and looking to do a basic set of Greeks or Web, but there I'm also not opposed to just getting Mirage chips off Apache, but also not sure if Tina actually comes out to be cheaper, I just ideally get them within around 3 months. (sooner is definitely not worse though)

Also these are just options I have seen, if anyone has other insight or great cheap finds let me know thank you.

You are new, so anything other than dice chips will seem like a huge upgrade. If you are truly limited by a low budget, you should just look at the great ceramic hybrid options that are out there. 500 chips should be in the $200 to $250 range. The ceramic hybrids aren't going to wow you like real clay chips, but they are a step up from china clay chips for around the same price.

Pretty large stakes for college students.

I would recommend some a bit more custom for larger stakes with a more public / rotating group of players. Never know if someone would be savy enough to chip spike a game.

I have heard pretty bad stories about chip injecting, which is pretty scary which was an appeal of the Tinas

sent a pm to the second link thank you

This may be a dumb question, but what counts as a ceramic hybrid? I believe some refer to Tinas as ceramic hybrids but that is all I know.

Certain plastic chips (also called ceramics) typically have (or used to typically have) their designs printed directly onto the chip face. Hybrid ceramics have a recess with an inlaid label instead of a smooth chip face. Printing onto a label typically means better fine details, and since the center of the chip is recessed you get fewer spinners (chips that don't stack smoothly because they're slightly curved).

So the nexgens are a plastic chip, but they are definitely not considered ceramics right?
