Tourney Fixed Limit tourney (you heard right) (1 Viewer)

Had a weird dream last night that I was playing in a fixed limit tourney - so in the first blind level, the game ran like a 25/50 limit game (and on that basis, the fourth blind level would have worked like a 75/150 limit game etc etc).

Obviously I'd eaten too much cheese, or whatever, but this made me think: has anyone here ever actually played a fixed limit tourney? If so, did you enjoy it? Did it play massively differently to a NLHE tourney?

I played in one. Early levels were a waste. Blinds need to start higher than a NL tournament.

Other than that it wasn't bad.

We play fixed-limit and mixed-limit tournaments quite a bit. Formats include Razz, Stud8, SOHE, Scrotum, Badugi, Omaha Hi/Lo, HORSE, HORS (NLHE, PLO, Razz, Stud8), and several Dealer's Choice tourneys. I have played in Limit Hold'em tournaments at casinos, but the only limit Hold'em around here is the first level of HORSE.

The key is using a decent structure and finding the right starting stack size (in terms of number of big bets). Limit poker is a completely different skill set than No-Limit or Pot-Limit poker, and our group enjoys the diversity of events.

A good HORSE tourney is a ton of fun. Definitely plays a lot differently, though. Worth a try!

Yeah I'm intrigued as to what blind structures would look like (if, say, you had 100bb starting stack - or would a limit tourney require a different big blind starting amount...?)

I guess a limit tourney would need to be a lot longer than an equivalent NL game, because people can't go crazy? But then if you don't get people crashing out so much, does that balance things out (more people still in equals less total blinds to go around?)

Our big bet (non-limit) tournaments typically start with 200-300 big blinds or larger. Most of the limit events begin with 100-150 big bets (which isn't the same thing as big blinds).

Agreed. Most *ARG* limit tournaments start with a stack of 50BB. The limits are generally twice the blinds at any particular level.

Limit tournaments are fun. Key thing is to not start too deep stacked and make the levels last longer.

Biggest complaint I hear about Limit games is that you can't blow somebody off a hand. Hmm.... maybe try outplaying them instead.....

Open face chinese poker because you get to see everyone's hand and all the cards everytime. (Also a limit game somewhat)
