First Time Playing Poker At A Casino (3 Viewers)

Poker = Oostende and Namur. They have to keep live tables (by Belgian law) so they can offer online roulette and blackjack games. For the moment no poker in any Belgian or Dutch casino. No master classics of poker this year in Amsterdam. Middelkerke is for Belcasinos in 2022. I asked you because I want to know what old chips are left in the vault of casino Knokke. The floormanager is now a woman called Véronique Seels. Jo

By the looks of it your network is better than mine, but I’ll check if I have an in somewhere :)

I've told this before but it's a funny story.
First time was $1/$2 at Twin Rivers. Up to that point I'd only played .25/.50 home games. I went to the window and asked for $150 - a full rack of ones and the rest in fives. Because I figured you'd need a lot of $1's for a $1/2 game, right?
I sat down with my rack of $1's, looking like the total noob that I was and caught pocket kings on the first hand. Flopped the set and turned quads. I had no problem getting action on that hand because everybody assumed I was an idiot. That was the beginning of a stupid heater. I think I ran my stack up to $750 at one point, but ended up walking out with $450 or $500.
Easy game, right?

I’m gonna try this, just to see the looks I get at the table  :ROFLMAO:

When buying in I always ask for a rack of $1s, and 1-2 barrels of $5s.

I may look like a noob, but how else do you get the best $1s for your harvest at the end of the night? o_O

This is a short story, because I don't really remember much detail.
Probably 1976-ish. Gold Nugget downtown, playing 2-4 structured stud.
My only clear memory is having a few blue-haired old ladies take large chunks out of my ass

There is nothing that scares me more when considering to go and play live for the first time :p

Yeah, but I don’t think many people have been lining up to cherry pick these beauties:

I try to harvest everywhere at least once. I may need a hazmat suit for those and the oversized label destroys the relabel opportunities, but I try to get something from every casino I finish up at - beauty non-withstanding.

Ugly Paulsons deserve love too.

so, my first experience was great, not that I played well or anything like that, as a matter of fact had almost nothing to do with me

I bought in for $200 in a 1/2 game in Shreveport, played for about 3 hands and bam, bad beat jackpot, I lost quad K's to quad A's, The guy that had the A's told me to slow my roll after the Turn, Flop was AAK, turn was 3, he knew what we both had and said we have to both show for the bad beat jackpot to payout, now it took them forever to go back through(i guess they look at the tapes), get everyone's info and then pay us all, could not continue the game util they were done

Got paid off on the bad beat, pocket that money and was happy as a clam, lost my $200 buy in and made everyone on the table happy

sat down at 1/2 at charlestown WV thinking i was good, tried to triple barrel a MAWG off his flopped top pair got snap called. Then bluffed away another few buyins, left feeling pretty crappy.

made up my mind never to play poker again, but got pulled in to a casino with friends on a holiday, ended up cashing out for over $3000 on a $100 buy-in after deciding not to bluff anymore.

Early 2000s. I went to Biloxi with a few guys from the micro-stakes home game we played in college. We were all shocked that the lowest limit game we could find was 3/6. I remember feeling overwhelmed and losing a lot of money to a guy who kept falling asleep.

My first experience was at the Bill’s gamblin hall and saloon!
an old casino in the strip. I think its closed know...
But it was so cool, the table was almost on the sidewalk.
Blinds were 1/1... perfect for little bankroll as mine and everybody was happy to be here.

I was young and carefree, i miss it lol

My first time was "No Fold'em Hold'em" at Foxwoods (i.e. $2/$4 limit) before they started spreading NL games, probably 2002 or 2003. I made a ton playing tight that first session, and started going 2-3 times a week after work to play, it was like a 2nd job. Then they soon started holding NL tournaments and spreading $1/$2 NL and it was a whole new ballgame.

Similar start here too. Except I had a 3 hour bus ride each way. Lol.

When I started the room was upstairs. Then it moved downstairs. Now it's upstairs and across the way again.

Haven't been back since the WSOPC last August though.

I just turned 18 and my friends dragged me to Vegas. I forget which casino we hit first (Bush senior was in office), but as others went to play 21, I hit the poker tables. I knew poker, but we played nickle, dime, quarter. I had no idea what I was doing and needed help with blinds and whatnot. I can’t remember any of the details, save this: I made a full house on my third hand. I had no poker face, started getting all nervous, and apparently they other saw that as weakness. I ended up winning over $350. Then I really started to freak out they’d card me and I’d lose my money, so I quietly played two more hands and quickly left. Not once was I asked about my age that weekend. (As opposed to security chasing me out the previous visit.)

Right after college my company sent me to a project in Puerto Rico. There was no poker at the time but I got to spend about 10 months living in the Caribe Hilton and playing blackjack and craps at the many great hotels along the strip.

First time playing poker in a casino: Once again thanks to work, I was in CA in 2004 the week of a tournament and decided to stay over the weekend and go watch the event. It was the Bay 101 shooting stars tournament. I had a lot of fun watching, saw lots of well known pros, and got to play in some low stakes sitngo side events.

Boy, did I take the wrong job...

2005 MGM Grand. Was on an awesome US trip for 5 weeks with my future wife. San Fran-LA-Grand Canyon-LV-SF-HI.

Sat with $100 at 1/2. Called too much pre with 98s, flopped an open ender, called too much on the flop, binked the turn and got it in vs top set and held. Felt like a pro. My neighbour congratulated me on my play and told me he loved suited connectors as well. Keep the fish happy and don’t tap the glass, right :D

First time I played in a casino was at Diamond Lil's in Renton, WA back in 2003-2004. Bought in for $100 and sat down at a 4/8 table. Doubled my money in less than an hour, got up and left. Came back a week later and did the same exact thing. I thought this was the easiest money I ever made. How young, naïve and foolish I was back then. Many years and games/tournaments later and I'm still chasing that win.

Must have been around 1998-99 I was about 18. one of the guys I had been playing home games with took me to Hollywood Park, I only had about 40 to play and they were running 1-2 limit.

About 30 minutes into the session, our table hit a bad beat jackpot. One guy got 1500 and another 800 and the rest of us about 200. Haha!

I was like “what the hell just happened?” My buddy had to explain it slowly to me because I didn’t even know anything like that existed. There was tons of commotion and floormen and railbirds everywhere.

Needless to say the table loosened up significantly. We were rich!!!

I remember thinking “this is amazing and sooo easy!!! I love casinos!!!”
It’s been like 25 years and haven’t hit so much as a table share since :)

But I did work my way up to the 9-18 table at commerce before the no limit boom hit. Awesome $3 chip game. I got my ass handed to me at that limit and settled into 4-8 before I started really playing no limit.

I still like to play limit at casinos, :)

So what was the bad beat jackpot? And is this typically used at casinos and home games?

They basically drop one dollar from every pot, (or one small bet at larger tables) and keep collecting until there’s a winner.

At Hollywood park it’s aces full of tens or better beat by 4 of a kind or better. both hole cards must play.

The loser gets the big share, (bad beat) 50% the winner gets 30% and the table splits 20%

There’s usually a tv screen with a running tally of what the jackpot is at the given limits... I’ve seen it get pretty high, like 40-100k on the bigger limits.

On a board with a ace and big pair on the flop you can see people rethinking thier strategy... if they have one part of the jackpot hand.

It’s pretty much like this at all L.A. casinos...

I remember Crystal Park used to have “aces cracked wins a rack” that was pretty fun too.

Very common in casinos.

In our home game we often hold a bad beat bonus for the "best losing hand" of the night. However, the month we paid off our mortgage, we offered a bad-beat jackpot of one of our (former) mortgage payments to be divvied up over all the players present if someone lost with a full house.

My first time is very, very vague... I remember almost nothing. Probably in 98 or 99 at the Orleans playing 7Stud.

I’m sure I didn’t buy in for much and however much it was didn’t last long... Only hand I remember anything about, honestly I don’t even remember what I had or what my opponent had showing, I simply remember betting on 5th and getting raised. Dealer looked at me and slowly shook his head.

I called.

6th street I was either facing a bet or a raise (no idea if I’d led out) and the dealer again was subtly shaking his head in my direction.

I called.

Repeat again on 7th, pretty sure the dealer was pushing my opponent the pot before my opponent turned over his cards.

Although I've never played there, i understand the action at Live! Casino is quite choice from several folks I know that have played there.
pre COVID I played at live regularly. The 2/2 5 card game is better than the 1/2 5 card game at mgm. The 5/5 5 card game is usually better than the 5/5 5 card game at mgm but mgm usually has more higher stakes players so the game can last longer. dont know about holdem cause I never play, except I know the 50/100 holdem game at mgm is pretty spicy. also live is more receptive to the semi private games ( for the higher stakes games), that’s why I prefer there. The guys at mgm abused that privilege so they shut it down. Horseshoe poker scene sucks plus they have security issues getting to the parking lot. I very rarely played there.
