I have spent the past few days thinking of what custom chips I want to make, and I really like the idea of a common rain frog being the mascot after this iconic video

I want to look for an artist to make something similar to this, and i want it to be standing while yawning just like in the video and scratch its own belly/side. On the other side of the chip, the only thing I want to change is the mascot facing away from the viewer, only showing its butt. I know about the list of designers i can contact to help with the design, but does this apply to artwork?

Anyways, i named him Fatty Roman after the GTA 4 character "Fatty Cousin Roman" - gambles and gets into debt, seems lazy and likes to have degenerate fun but is hardworking, also fun to be around. But I do not know what to call this "club" based off his name. "Fatty Roman's", "Fatty Roman's Casino", "Fatty Roman's Poker Club", etc. Would like to hear your suggestions that fits this theme.
The colours of the chips will be based on different frogs.
  • Brown (25c): common rain frog (the mascot)
  • Light blue ($1): Blue poison dart frog
  • Red ($5): Phantasmal poison frog
  • Green ($20): Red-eyed tree frog
The other three colours I am still deciding what denomination to put
  • Yellow: Indian bull frog
  • Black: Golden poison frog
  • Purple: Purple frog

I am quite unsatisfied with the red and black chips' edge spots, would also like to hear suggestions outside of the CPC designer tool.

Some other questions including those above:

  • Do designers of poker chips make artwork too? If not, any recommendations?
  • Any names for this fictional club to put on the chip?
  • What edge spots do you recommend for the red and black chip that kinda look like the frogs they are based off of?
  • I can put words on the edges of the chip. Should I add something or is it too much?
  • For the words on the chip, I do not want a font that is minimalistic, but I am open to suggestions as well.
Thank you.

also, what are your thoughts on no mold vs "hat and cane" mold vs card mold? Really dislike the 2 molds but am also unsure about having no mold.

used PCF's design tool instead of CPC's and am really satisfied with these, but the edge spots are only available on 39mm chips. I am assuming that i can still use these patterns if i buy 43mm chips.

Leaning towards 43mm, textured no mold for this set

Some names that I am considering for this "place" to put on the chip
Roman's ______
  • Card Room
  • Poker Club
  • Poker Room
  • (Poker) Lounge
  • Card House
  • Card Club
  • Leisure & Pleasure
Wondering if Fatty sounds too "harsh", maybe "Big Roman" sounds nicer?

Frogs hang out on pads, in ponds, and under bright lights.

Roman’s Poker Pond

A group of frogs is an “army” while a group of toads is a “knot”.

A group of Romans is a legion
I want a name that sounds like a real establishment, and Roman is the establishment's fictional founder. Thanks though!

first draft for the inlay, no experience in illustrator and design so I randomly chose fonts and need to figure out how to align everything.

You'll never be able to read half of it due to 1) too small and thin font size for most of text, and 2) black background bleed will obliterate what you might be able to read.

i assume yoyre talking about the latest picture? so i should choose a thicker font and use a white background?

Imagine a 3/4" diameter circle held at arm's length containing everything you want to print. That's what you've got to play with for legibility.
from what i read online, I should let the black background extend beyond the circle which I want to print? Is that what you are pointing out? Or are you saying that the black background will "leak" into the words that are of different colours?

My brainstorm: Fatty Roman’s Poker Pad. A green leaf shaped like spade with either the Denom on the leaf or a top down view of a frog. I prefer the denom. But each chip has a background that’s like a frog skin pattern you mentioned above (i.e. yellow chip is Indian bullfrog pattern background.

Also you said you’re reconsidering changing Fatty Roman. My personal preference is Rounder Roman, Fatts Roman, or Swollen Roman or stick with your gut and don’t change it.

ooo i like the background idea, but im also considering a completely different idea after poking around in adobe illustrator. Thanks!

The text is too small and crowded in what will be a very small area when printed. The top and denomination are probably OK, but everything below the denomination will be too small to read when on the chip.

Print your inlay design at actual size and hold it at arms length. Put it in a table in the kind of lighting you will have when you play with the chips.

thanks, im coincidentally looking at a 4 year old comment of yours giving inlay design advise!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the thin text being affected by the black background. It definitely happens on cards mold and no-mold, but the hybrid labels have much better printing fidelity.
Here’s a recent post showing very thin art and type:
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...greek-mold-02-2025.127750/page-9#post-2698544

But that doesn’t really solve the issue of type size…I do think it’s too small to read everything, and the mixing of a number of typefaces may be a bit distracting.

the appeal of customizing my own design is making me mix anything and everything... thanks!
