Hey everyone,
I’ve been getting more into home games lately and was wondering:
What’s your favorite chip for real gameplay (not collecting)?
Looking for something that shuffles well, feels good, and holds up over time.
There are countless recommendations here for chips to buy but I feel like most of them focus on collecting and authenticity rather than actual function on live home poker games
Thanks!

Not sure if I can explain this clearly, but semi-new slightly-worn Paulsons (RHC or THC) are the best for live play, in my opinion.

They have a unique "rubbery" feel that is bar none, and shuffle smoothly.

And yes, as @Eriks has stated, I'd say everyone here puts their chips in play, and that includes everything from bicycle tires to factory-dust covered uncirculated Paulsons. Not sure there's anyone here who will put chips on a shelf just to stare at 'em.

All my playable sets have seen play, which include:
CDI98 leaded (reduced) Paulson THC
Loyal Order of Moose unleaded C&J THC
Grouse Mountain Lodge leaded (full) Paulson THC
Tiger Palace unleaded Paulson THC
Big Easy Bud Jones S2 (unweighted)
Casino Royale CPC LCrown + MSK plaque
James Bond Casino Night OWPS (BR Pro) no mold ceramic
Imperial Palace Sunfly ceramic

Only three sets not yet played:
Silver Tongued Devil CPC LCrown (awaiting expansion)
Casino Moscow B&G weighted (heads up only)
Encore Casino Burt DISQ (too delicate, possibly up to 80-100 years old)

I have quite a few sets but I tend to play my ceramic set the most with all my other sets sitting in a shelf collecting dust. I’ve decided to start rotating my chips to get different sets in action more often though.

Well to be honest, in the OPs defense, this hobby is not what most people think. Even as an avid poker player who owned a set of ASMs 14 years before I ever heard of this forum….I assumed collecting poker chips meant individual chips of value. Never did I ever imagine people collected entire playable sets.

I honestly have never had an interest in that…only full custom…which is how I found this forum what I had thought would be its main focus.

Had I known about buying massive sets…and even milling them out and relabeling them…I would have considered that years ago when Paulsons were cheap! I’d also own a set of Paulson Niors

If you talk about "casino chip collecting" "poker chip collecting" sounds more like just a singles or samples collector. Those guys are here and a lot of us are both a poker chip collector and poker players.

As a poker player, I found myself here because I wanted better chips than the run-of-the mill chips you can get a whatever poker supply website. I can't speak for anyone else, but after I got up to speed on buying the right chips then I started to become a casino chip collector.

Along with casino chip collecting some folks are into collecting playable sets of chips. Many of us have built or bought sets that haven't hit the felt yet. Some want sets that are on different chip molds, some like to make custom sets. Some only have 1 set of top-tier chips and that is enough.

There are exceptions, but I do not think that there is many of us that purchase one or collect many sets of expensive poker chips and not put them into play.

Leaded Paulsons.
I wish there was a snob emoji I could use here
