Fat Tire CPC... Set Design Thread (1 Viewer)

Lets focus on the yellow for a bit...

I'm throwing out some mocks of the yellow chip. I have to admit, I really like the DG tiger color, I think it pops, and I think it plays well with others. I also think you'll realize that I also like shades of gray (not the 50 shades kind), but I think the gray family goes well with other colors, and it's the color of my table felt. I like that I've incorporated some shade of gray in most of the chips. I'm not 100% sold on doing this, but I think for now, it looks appealing to me.

Let me know your opinions on which yellow might works best, or mock up a yellow you think would fit better.

the 100 and 5k are too similar for my tastes (even though i'm supposed to focus on the yellow).

I went with the 3V --> 3D --> 4V --> 4D route, but thought the spots looked weird. So I went with 3V-3D-4D-4V route.

I'm not expert on progression for sure... I just kinda go with I see others doing or what looks appealing to me. Someone should write an article on chip spot progression (do's/don'ts) and how a standard progression might look. I get that there's no real hard rules, but there has to be some starting guidelines?

As far as the 100 & 5k being too similar, are you thinking spots or colors? They will see the felt together briefly, but once the 5k's come out in force, the 100's will be off the table IMHO.

I'm not opposed to things "matching", since a lot of sets have identical spots throughout, but just change colors. I'm also not opposed to having complimentary spots, ones that play off other chips.. However, as stated, I'm not an expert in this crap, lol

I think this chip design tool was some University Psych Department's sick twisted experiment to study frustration, anxiety, and addiction, lol...

I'm getting close (as far as I can get with an initial go at these). I also have a rough draft inlay (from the talented p5woody). His play on the inlay/table design is cool, but I'm sure there will be some additional tweaking (this was his first version).

My color samples are on the way, so I will confirm/tweak colors as needed when I've seen them all close up.

I'll take thoughts and suggestions:

Nice. I'd like to see a more vibrant base yellow on the T1k, but otherwise, nice job.

Edit: I just realized I made this same comment a few days ago...at least I'm consistent. Put me down for a sample set.

I feel the 500 could use some flash. Seems very muted compared to the others. I think swapping out the grey for dg pink would really improve it.

I am using the Dayglow Yellow base. I tried it with DG Saturn, but the CPC chip sample I have that uses the Saturn seemed too green. Once I get the official color sample set, I'll make adjustments.

I kinda like the 500, and the gray has a purpose of tying the chips together,... but am not opposed to looking at this suggestion. If I were going to ditch the gray, I think the DG pink would be a good choice

I have to admit, I like the colors together.

What's the verdict on how it flows with the set?

Seems like there's no love for the gray/red spots on the yellow chip. I really do like the red/yellow combo, but some mentioned liking the blue. So, I made the following modification, and I actually like it better than red/gray. Your thoughts?

I'm not 100% locked on red spots here, but if someone has a better idea, something that goes with the rest of the chips, and really pops, then I'm open to suggestions.

Here's how it looks with the other chips.

I also have color samples on order from CPC, and the order was processed. But I have no idea how long these will take to get shipped...? I've been watching the mail, hoping...

Light blue is meh IMO. Even though I don't have a sample of it I think peacock would be better.

Frak! Delicious colors! I'll join the ride and admire. Have to fast-read the whole thread today.

Might toy with the color sample set for the yellow chip for a bit, if it's not too late yet.

I'd wait until inlay is finalized before going much further - the difference in how I would design a set using the previous inlay presented and the new one is like night and day.

Overuse of Tiger probably warranted for this particular set - it just flows so awesomely with the whole "neon" thing. The 100 and 5k are superb. It could probably be toned down a LITTLE though (particularly by changing the V spot on the 5k to something other than more orange.)

I'd like to see some sort of blue hues on the 500 - a la your avatar Erik. How about something like this?

The inlay is about 95%. We need to move the bike up a bit, and adjust so the edge isn't in the non-print area. Then make the denoms sized to fit.

I really like the purple base for the 500, but again, I will make final decisions when I get the color sample set. I will keep in mind the blue/peacock base color idea.

As for the 5k, I really like how the charcoal sets off with the tiger, but might play with the orange spot some. Any suggestions (for what you'd change it to)?

I think DG green looks awesome there, but you may not agree. Others you might consider are maroon, light blue, or lavender (if not on the 500.)

I think the current rendering of DG Peacock in the chip designer isn't very accurate - it looks WAY better in person. :)

When is that dang color sample set gonna get here...? I feel like pony express is bringing it, on horse-back

I don't want people thinking I never accept advice (it's why I'm posting here, after all) :)

I really like the purple/lavender color on a 500 (Jeff's King's Club 500's come to mind as one of the sexiest 500 chips in existence).

That said, if the exberts are saying the DG peakock is worth a look, then who am I to disagree..

How about these?

edited to add, I toyed with the idea of a bright white spot in the set (I know it's popular), but I just don't think it works well here. I also did some contemplating, and am leaning more towards a lavender 500... I LOVE the peacock blue I've seen in other pics, and I think I'd want to reserve this for a potential cash set color ($1 chip)... Not 100% ruled out for the tourney set, since I'm not 100% sure I'll do a custom cash set.

I'm on the fence here. I have two minty/nice large epic Paulson cash sets, and to justify a custom cash set is hard.. Since I'd have to probably liquidate one of the sets (Point Defiance) to make it happen. From a purely investment standpoint, it doesn't make sense... A Paulson set will holds it's value for the most part, and a custom set will cost more, and immediately lose value. But it sure would be ballah!!!! ;)

I am pretty sure that^^^ T500 is purple base with DG pink and gray spots, purple is a much deeper color than lavender IMO. You'll also figure this out once you have samples in hand, but retro lavender is closer to pink than lavender in color. I agree this chip is gorgeous. I like your line #2 but maybe DG peacock base with DG pink and Blurple spots
