My son loves card games, board games, and RPG’s, etc. He works at a local gamer store, and Scythe, a turn-based strategy game, is his latest pickup. It’s myself, my wife, and my vastly more skilled 21-year-old son. Fun game!

Does the red guy really have a cow to go with his megadeathcyborg armor?

We have a few board gamers kicking around PCF. @FDLmold and @Psypher1000 if I recall correctly.
Don't forget @Poker Zombie and @Mrs Poker Zombie.

Scythe is a good game, as is just about anything Stonemeier Games produces. I also tend to like nothing they produce, but that's just a preference thing.

We are in the infancy stages of trying to build a gaming group here in Tennessee, but it's been slow going. Luckily, you don't need a lot of people for a good group (unlike poker where you need much more). But the quality of player needs to be much higher with gaming. (nearly) Anyone can learn poker - actions are limited and ABC strategy is simple. Most good board games require multiple levels of thinking, strategies, and rules comprehension.

If the group gets rolling though, Scythe is on my pick-up list. (y)

I'm a pretty heavy board gamer as well. My collection is a bit embarrassing. :p

We've played Scythe a few times. I like other worker placements more, but this one is fun.

I need to show my wife this thread so she'll stop complaining about my growing board game collection.

When I sold those Casino movie promo chips on here recently, I took the proceeds and bought a copy of Gloomhaven. I got quite the eyeroll when I brought that box home.

Gloomhaven is massive, lol. We've played one game of it and hasn't hit the table since =/

Yeah, it's unfortunate that I have mostly agreed. I picked up Euphoria because I just loved the way it looked but I could never get into it. I have Viticulture and I feel the same way, although I keep it around because I think it's a good theme and a good intro to worker placement for beginner gamers. Fantastic production value for sure though.

Haha, same...I spent some time and $ organizing it up to help with the setup time but we still haven't dug back into it yet.

Poker takes up too much of my gaming time  :ROFLMAO:

Agreed - since Poker is easier to play and more approachable it's somewhat easier to get a group together in my experience.

Thankfully we have a very vibrant BG community in the Portland area so I generally wouldn't have a hard time getting a group together. Before I got heavily back into Poker last year (after finding PCF...) I hosted regular game nights and had converted many of my buddies.

These are a couple of my favorites. Viticulture in particular is one I introduce to a lot of friends.

I introduce friends to Viticulture in hopes that I can get them to play Agricola with me :p

I can't get anyone to play Agricola with me. Too much turn angst for most of my friends. Uwe is still one of my top designers, however. I REALLY like Fields of Arle.

IMO, the biggest problem he made in Agricola is the whole, "Feed your family" aspect - it adds an entirely unnecessary emotional stress element to the game. I'm not a huge fan of his games, but I do think they're good. If I had to pick one to play it would probably be Feast for Odin.

It's funny because my brother in law says the same thing, but I think this is one of the best things about his games. Perhaps it isn't surprising that his favorite Uwe game is also A Feast for Odin.

The emotional stress is the best part of the game  :ROFLMAO:

Caverna is the "friendly" version of Agricola, but I don't like it nearly as much because of that...plus the loss of the improvement cards that add so much variation and combo play to the game.

AFFO even more so...very sand-boxy, although it deviates from the Agricola formula more than Caverna did.
