Everything KEM (1 Viewer)

New to cards in general, but I saw bridge size KEM arrows (with the black packaging, not gold) for 36.90e + 5e shipping in my neck of the woods.
That's in euros, so in dollars it would be something like 42$ + 6$.
Seems like a steal when the current normal price is 60e, but 20 bucks for a pack of cards?

Talk me into it/out of it, please!

The pricing is insane. Its not a steal because 60 is also insane. Find and love other cards. Fournier, Gemaco, Angel, whatever. Just flee.

This is valid. It doesn’t mean KEM cards aren’t the best; it just means that the asking price has become stupid.

I think lots of value of KEM is of "sentimental sort"...Used during WSOP and in Rounders, this sort of thing
I remember when starting playing poker that was one of my first purchases ...Arrows from Rounders

Silly but valid I think

Out of respect for your thread I'm gonna just agree that a lot of the value is sentimental; good day gentlemen.

I wonder how much the big poker rooms in Vegas get them for. Aria, Wynn pretty much everyone except Venetian, WSOP still uses KEM.

There might be a clue in the Phil Ivey edge-sorting scandal verdicts. One of the casinos sued Gemaco for millions, because they supplied the “defective” cards. Gemaco was found liable for $27 - the cost of the cards. Of course, I have no idea if that was a single deck, a setup, a 12-pack of paper plastic or who knows what, because I’ve never played baccarat. But it’s funny.

This is my Dream Set of KEMS that I would like to pickup one day. Not because I'm a Trump Fan, but I used to play Poker a lot in the Taj Mahal years ago. I once saw these on eBay many years ago but the set went for like $140 or something which was more than I was willing to spend..

Maybe it's just me.

Just picked up these narrow, standard index crane backs at a vintage shop for $25

Manufacture date looks like July 1957 and they’re in shockingly good shape minus my one dead 7 of hearts

I played cards last week at a crappy casino in PA. Like most casinos they did use Kems…but these felt different. Much more like PVC than acetate and they had a linen texture.

I’ve owned Kem cards for almost 25 years and have samples from 2002-2019. People like to claim there was a change made in stock when USPC bought them. I can’t detect ANY difference…however with the cards from last week, there was.

It got me thinking that maybe, along with this massive price increase ,there was a card stock change. Not that they are somehow worth it at $70 but maybe it was part of a bigger business move. I personally think the price increased was to limit sales to the public so they can focus on their commercial business. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

The other thought was that since this card room was one of the most crappy half assed ones I’ve ever played in, they could be fake Kems🤣

I have searched high and low for a card that feels like Kem at a better price point, and honestly... no luck. They really are in a category of their own.

The only downside is that owning them requires also owning a steamroller to keep them flat.

And here I thought Marion was a cheap Taiwanese knock off that stole the Kem packaging. I just got a deck of Marion’s to try. They are NOT worth $36. I think I payed $20. They feel like Copags but a little stiffer. Very plasticy
I wonder if kem.com is just a reseller website, not actually affiliated with KEM.
Marions can be had for $16-18 and are made by the same Taiwanese company that supposedly makes Faded Spade.

This is what I set out to do around 12 years ago and ended up with close to 50 setups from nearly every card manufacturer out there. There is only ONE card that feels like Kem …and I didn’t come across it until late in my journey. Angel casino cards in the green box. They may even feel better. That said they are extremely hard to find.

I’ve seen these discussed across a few different threads, but I still haven’t been able to find a way to get them. If anyone knows where they’re available or how to obtain them, I’d appreciate the help!
