Hello,

I was looking for some budget chips in Europe and checked some resources and reviews here.
My first choice had a bad review on this page, so I ordered a sample set of two chips: The Nuts Poker Room and Diamond Club.
I'm based in Europe.

Diamond Club Review

These chips are described as "Clay-Composite" chips.
They look very nice and come with a large plastic coated label.
Label and surface have a matt finish - the walls are glossy.

The labels are punched out off-centered, some of them are rotated relative to the chip.

The chips have a bit of production residue which make the edges a bit sharp.
The residue is barely visible. Also they have a visible dot from the injection mould.

The Diamond Clubs weigh on average 14.2g and have a diameter of 39.5mm.
(The chips have a metal disk in them - a magnet will stick to them)
I paid 34ct per chip (USD 0.40) / 8.50€ per stack (USD 9.18).

They have a muffled sound / they are more going into base.
The chips can be shuffled.
Due to the large indented sticker they have a small contact surface.
This is an issue when moving a stack arround, the stack will break.
Also when placing a bet the top chip will move further - potentially splashing the pot.

The Nuts Review (The Nuts Poker Room)

These chips are described as "Clay-Composite" chips.
They come with a "Casino Royal" design.
They don't look as nice as the Diamond Club chips, but they have other qualities.
The Nuts are matt on both the surface and walls - the label made from plastic is glossy with holograms (ring, detail on the hazelnut and on the line above the denomination).
The lables are punched out perfectly and are alligned perfectly on the chip. (The N is on a line with the yellow knob)

For whatever reason the ring with the crowns is not equally positioned on each chip.
On closer inspection the holograms have a few dots in them.

The chips have a lot of production residue, but it could be cleaned off easily with a fingernail.
They have no sharp edges. The residue is visible and they also have a visible dot from the injection mould.

On average they weigh 14.0g and due to the residue they have a diameter between 39.5mm and 40mm.
(The chips have a metal disk in them - a magnet will stick to them)
I paid 44ct each (USD 0.48) / 11€ per stack (USD 11.88).

The sound is a bit higher than the Diamond Club chips - with more details.
They shuffle and have no issues when being moved in a stack.
Also then have no issues when placing a bet.

Conclusion

Feel free to ask any questions below.
This is my first chip purchase and I'm happy with the results. I could now decide on a tournament set.
I'm a newbe in the whole poker chip topic - so please be easy on me.
Please correct me if I'm struggeling with any terminology.

I've bought both of them in the Austrian Pokershop page (pokershop.de) - under the section "Cash Game Chips" for whatever reason.
I would have expected them in the clay section. I've also seen these chips on shops based in the Netherlands and Denmark.

I can't say much about the material - I've played in a German casino with lighter, smoother chips - but I don't know how to determine the amount of clay in them.

Because someone has written a review on the Joker Casino Chips here which influenced my decision I'd like to thank the forum and give back a review - since the European market doesn't have much reviews.

They are in fact called metal slugged plastic chip. They are generally classified under lower end plastic

Term such as "Clay-Composite" or Casino-quality are often use as marketing term and not true to its word

At the pricing 40c-48c, they are way overpriced in my opinions and at that budget you can get stock ceramic , card Mold and China Clay which are better quality chips

Thank you for the extensive review!

As @LeLe already said these are metal slugged plastics and not what most collectors on here are after.
I highly recommend getting some samples of actual clay poker chips to get to know the difference in feel and sound.
Apachepokerchips has a jack cincy sample set in stock right now.
https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/jack-casino-cincinnati-paulson-sample-chips/
Problem is they are US-based and you'd have to pay shipping and probably 20% import taxes/customs.
You can also have a look around in the classifieds or I could put together a sample set of paulson clays, ceramics and other more high end stuff than the plastics and loan it to you for a week or so if you cover shipping inside of germany.

Edit:
You could also just visit another chipper in your area, but at least on the PCF Map I couldn't find someone very active from your immediate neck of the woods.

I was hoping to get a good set on a budget, but seeing what would surfice my quality standards for 44ct - the premium to clay chips isn't that much to be honest.

A set of these: https://pokershop.de/Pokerchip-Majestic-1000 is well in my budget for 74ct each (USD 0.81) - I would have gotten samples of these when completing my tourney set - but I have doubts.

Are these Majestics good for this price and worth the premium?

Personally would say no.
I've owned a 600pc set of china clays from the same producer and my wife and I couldn't get over the PVC smell the china clays are well known for.
Some China clay owners also report that their chips turned very brittle after a few years and were very prone to breaking in half (no reports like this for the majestic so far though)
There are enough people on here who have no problem with the smell and/or say their chips don't smell that bad at all.
It's a matter of preference or what compromise you're willing to make.

Also: get samples. ;)

Well they used the same photos as Apache - and the 1000 chip is pressed off-centered on the photo. (Big no no for me)
So this is probably the hard task: I'm looking for chips available in Europe with 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 denom - either clay or ceramic or whatever in that pricerange below 75ct each. Do you have any samples of such chips?

https://brpropoker.com/

Easiest and fastest way to get quality ceramics. Not Europe based though.

And as always: get samples first! :)

How many players do you want to accommodate with your tourney set and
how many chips do you intend to get?

If you get a clever breakdown you don't need that many chips and may be able to spend more than 75ct/chip and get a higher quality product.

Also there are cards mold ceramics. Best bang for your buck I think and tons of variations to choose from. No problem to get the aria cards mold in the desired denoms for example.

You may have a bigger per chip budget than you think. Most think they need a lot more chips than they actually do. That is especially true for tournaments sets. You can very easily get by with a 400 chip set for a single table tournament

81c are expensive, you prob can get them cheaper by buying them in US and shipping them back to Gemmary

Majestic are good starter set but as mentioned by @OfficerLovejoy they have a smell that some people cant still, I used to own a MIlano set which is also China Clay set and was never bother by the smell.

If smell bother you, you can try to get Ceramic from our site vendor like Brpro & Apache or Card mold ceramic by joining in a Group Buy
or if you like High end Plastic Chip you can buy them from @Stas https://www.pokerchipforum.com/forums/russian-casino-chips.109/ or @The Chip Exchange https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/presidents’-day-weekend-sale.51696/ but they will need a slightly higher budget

If you plan to get chip locally, @OfficerLovejoy and gang will be more knowledgeable and can advise better than me

I'm at 220 chips for 10 players ex. rebuys and color up.

About 8 players. 20k stack, blinds start at 100/100 and I could also incorporate a big blind ante.
I was thinking:
100 denom / 10 chips
500 denom / 2 or 6 chips
1000 denom / 8 or 6 chips
5000 denom / 2 chips

Additional 4 5000 chips for each rebuy and 2 chips for a color up.
In sum less than 300 chips total.

I had no idea about this map thing! I don’t think I’m shown but surely we don’t want to point people to where thousands of dollars worth of chips are? Not having a go at you, just wondered why it was even a thing?

All you do is provide your city not your actual address. ;)

No one is taking my flamingos, that is for sure! :ninja:

I did wonder but then I looked up a member who I know in the UK and it zoomed straight in on their house. I’ll pm them, might be user error. Cool feature really, I’m just grumpy.

Just for fun I guess. It doesn’t show exact address, just city. Although mine was pretty close

PM me who it was and I'll move the pin. Like OfficerLovejoy said, I just drop it in the city (sometimes a favorite eatery they have mentioned, a casino, or other fun place) but I never drop it knowingly on a player's actual house!

The odds of getting a correct address has to be astronomical. Time to buy a lottery ticket!
