A typical cumulus cloud, which is the puffy white cloud you often see, weighs about 1.1 million pounds (500,000 kilograms). While clouds appear light and fluffy, they are composed of a large number of water droplets, which add up to a significant weight.

Thanks for the giveaway.

It'll eventually sink in, I appreciate your kind words! For now its just time for deep breaths, revisions, and job applications.

Congrats! What an achievement! I’ll share one related to my field that I just learned last week:

The Monocyte Monolayer Assay (MMA) is a useful tool in testing the survivability of incompatible red blood cells in individuals with antibodies to high incidence red blood cell antigens.

If an individual has an antibody to a high incidence antigen (an antigen found on most people’s red blood cells), it can be difficult to transfuse such a patient without the destruction of those transfused cells, and this destruction can be dangerous to blood recipients.

MMA testing allows us to test if the donor cells can survive prior to transfusion!

I want to hear what inspired you to care about the natural world or whatever your passion is
Natural World....starting at the age of 5 or so, I planned to be a Veterinarian. The real world (versus the natural world) took a turn after I had my Biology Degree. But the forum really doesn't need another K9Dr, right??

This year, I'm rekindling my desire for fresh herbs and veggies. I've planted tomatoes, peppers (2 kinds), basil, rosemary, oregano, parsley, and thyme. Plus my sage has re-established itself after a recovery year. Apparently I'm Simon and Garfunkel?

Congratulations Frank!!! That is an awesome accomplishment!!

And since your subject matter is ocean acoustics, you know a fact that I discovered as a scuba diver, sound travels faster in water than it does in the air.

Well done, doc! I'm always grateful for you helping me out last year with my COPAG card replacement.

I also like how you refer to your home game players as apes so your science fact is -

Bonobos are prone to catching common colds and commonly have runny noses!

I’m learning a lot about sharks and dinosaurs with my 2yo. My fact is that sharks predate trees.

Oh, and:

(Becoming a dad may have demolished my brain)

Phenomenal news, and congratulations on your accomplishment!

Figs are botanical fruits that are actually inflorescences called syconia containing numerous tiny flowers inside a fleshy structure. These flowers require a specialized pollinator, the fig wasp, to reproduce. The wasp enters through a small opening called the ostiole, pollinates the flowers, and lays its eggs. The fig fruit then develops, and the wasp larvae mature and exit, continuing the cycle.

I read about this recently. Very interesting.

Explains why I hate figs. Creepy gross things before I even read that.
