I have good NL sets but I'm considering doing limit games because it's simpler. Should I get a new set specifically for limit games?

Please explain? Limit is a totally different beast, many here use limit sets to teach mixed games as pot limit can be extremely dangerous on split Omaha games.

Curious what is meant by simpler? I am personally not a huge fan of limit poker... if you don't play the proper stakes it can play extremely slow and boring (for the record many here are still limit fans so I don't speak for all)

As to "should I buy another set?" The answer is always YES moar chips is always better... but make sure you pick the right stakes or maybe consider a NCV set so the values of the chops can change as the game grows.

I was lucky enough to put this one together a few years back

And still haven't even started relabeling the Black's as $20s... tells you how often I need a limit set! But still recommend buying one if you have the itch for MOAR chips!

On the behalf of all members of PCF: YES
^^Correct answer, beat me too it - lol.

@Sisu41
If I might make a suggestion, the HSI $1a and Jumer $5’s work very well together, are readily available in qty, and are cheap!

Let me know and I can snap a pic of how they look together once I get home.

Dude - long time. Very good to see you!!!

That set is absolutely sick BTW. Fire, pure fire!

I love limit for the social games. Bad beats are fun, great wins are fun; there’s no one going home pissed off.

You can probably build on the chips you have- get more 25¢ or $1 or whatever limit you want to play.

You can also play limit with your NL set if you want to give it a whirl. Might mean more change-making, but you can still have fun.

@detroitdad
I believe I read you are a fan of limit games, no? Do you recommend purchasing an entirely different for limit or just add more to your NL set?

Of course I recommend it lol

I have 1400 x $1.00 chips and 75 x $20 plaques. All for a 7 player, $4.00/$8.00 limit game that I host once every three or four months.

For the record. I have contemplated buying a second limit. I would have to move this one first.

I'm gonna probably do 1/2 limit, should I get 1s, 20s, and 100s?

I like having two racks of the work horse chips per player. Then you only need one big chip.

What games are you thinking of playing limit?

Do you want the set to be flexible? Do you ever intend on raising the stakes?

How many players?

Hod'em and circus games

I have no plan to raise the stakes

8 players

So 1600 for 8 players?
Ideally, but you could get by with less work horse chips and add some value chips ($5s would work). You don’t actually play with the value chips. You just exchange them at the table with someone with a bunch of betting chips as needed.

Limit is best played with a bunch of chips. For example, most casinos run $4/8. A typical buy-in for that game would be $200 (all in $1s).

Buy-in for limit doesn’t matter. No max needed. Typical buy-in is 25 big bets though, but no need to cap it.

you would need $.25 or $.50 chips to play 1/2 limit. With $1's, you would want to play 2/4 limit at the lowest level. Small blind would be $1, BB would be $2. Moving to the bigger bet, you would be betting in increments of $4
