It's not tracked, but there is always the ~$1 non-machinable stamp w 1 chip in an envelope between two pieces of thin cardboard method.

For cheap chips only of course.

But yes, padded envelopes for one chip that is worth <$10 are too much now.

I used to do that with cheap chips that I’d be comfortable replacing. I definitely had at least one break. It’s up to the buyer and seller, but I’m not really comfortable with it.
 
I just duplicated a couple of my single chip bubble mailings on Pirate Ship. Looks like difference is only 30-40 cents from before using its discounted rates and there are still different prices for different weights. The notice I got discussed "commercial" shipping rates changing, especially non-continental shipping (sorry Canada!).

If you dig deeper you will see that some of the commercial companies like Pirate Ship also have agreements in place that are going to limit the impact of this. eBay does as well but it is not surprising that it is gouging people. I would not consider any pocket lining price eBay gives you to be an arbiter of anything. After all, they are taking a cut of every penny spent on shipping so why would they try to get the best price for anyone? They probably also get a cut of the labels they sell.

Not that any of the sky is falling chickens on Chipguide would know how to input its website address, or even create an account on a modern website, but folks here should be using it.

I have had no damage to the hundreds of chips I have shipped this way, fingers crossed. I would also ground advantage anything of value. I can say though that the untracked part tends to bother peoole. Tracking numbers are so common that I have had people think I am up to something shady for not providing it lol

As a seller, I hate eBay. Hate hate hate it, but sometimes I need those millions of eyeballs. I always buy my shipping at pirateship so they get no cut of that.

Try doing the same thing on pirateship but switching the postage date of tomorrow…

I’d be surprised from a business standpoint if pirateship who probably processes significantly less postage than eBay somehow got a 20-30%+ better deal for postage after having nearly the same % discounts up to this point. You’d figure eBay would be losing a lot of revenue if their sellers started switching to pirateship for postage.
