I haven't conducted a scientific study or anything, but it's been my observation that the ability to remember chip denominations is inversely proportional to the amount of alcohol consumed.
No doubt.
But I’ve also noticed that the presence of denoms on chips does not prevent drunks from asking what they are worth.
I would argue in fact that almost no one ever reads a denom. They either remember, or figure it out from the gameplay, or ask.
