Unnecessary background info
So back in 2010 there was a Norwegian distributor for Rye Park Poker tables and they cost about $1500 from Rye and about $1800-$2000 here in Norway. I knew the guy as he borrowed my Ritz chips for a music video(!), so I suggested a trade for him. I had about 1k PNY chips (including 80x$500) which was worth around $1500 at that time(!). I had bought it for $1200 (!).

So since my chips was about what he paid for a table we could trade. He agreed but I had to pay for the custom cloth myself. It was about $250 I believe as it was "casino grade", whatever that means. I guess he recouped freight (it weighs like 70kg!) and taxes on that deal but I was happy. The cloth came a month or so after I got the table so here's prepping for the first game in March 2010 (custom cloth hadn't arrived yet).

Today's state
So after almost 13 years of people spilling drinks and smoking at the table (although smoking might've died out when I got this table or shortly after on their own accord) it was showing it's age so I decided to remove it and wash it which is simpler said than done as it usually has a 80kg (!) table top on it, that I can't remove alone. Anyways, got that sorted and got to work.

I think I went a bit overboard with staples when attaching it though. There's still about a quarter left on the floor that I keep stepping on.

The old green cloth looked pristine btw. Not a stain on it, so I guess my cloth took the damage like a champ.

Can you tell that it's not new?

I was a bit worried it would tear when it was in the washing machine so I decided to try this to not risk it.

If anything it just made it riskier as the duct tape would attach it self to other duct tape parts and crimple the cloth to a ball as it was tumbling around in the washing machine. I tried a short cycle at 30C and it helped a bit, but not much so I threw caution to wind. I removed the duct tape, dowsed the logo and surrounding are (which was the most dirty as that's where everything is happening) with liquid dishwasher soap, then used some Vanish oxi-something instead of regular soap in the washing machine. I also put it on a one hour cycle, but still 30C. And well, lack of soap wouldn't be problem this time around.

There was still so much soap in the machine after it was done so I had to run another rinse cycle (cold water) but there was still soap in the machine after that. Anyways, the result was as good as I could expect.

This time around I didn't use as many staples as they're not that fun to remove.

All in all, quite happy I did spend time on it and how it turned out. Next game is on Friday and I'm pretty sure someone will spill something it. :D

That’s amazing. I’ve been reading here for like 8 years and I’ve never heard of somebody tossing their felt into the washing machine. But given the cost of these things, it’s worth the labor. Especially given the result! Nice work.

Seems like a lot of work (and risk) to remove the felt to clean it. You should invest in a wet vac. Much easier process and works pretty well. I use mine all the time.

Yeah it was suggested to me. But then again I didn't think it would work as well. This cloth has a polyester blend on the underside. And I figured, it's something I'll use once per decade and it would suck if I still ended up tossing it in the washing machine.
That being said, when I ordered the cloth, I was told I could wash it in a washing machine. I'm not sure how cloths are now and if this is still a thing.

Also as I moved through the pictures from the first night with the new cloth, I also found this. I suspect some of my players prefer living in caves.

Yes, I definitely recommend removal and washing the cloth in the washing machine. It's a nice thorough cleaning that makes a world of difference. Table builders, no need for a million staples to hold a cloth on!

Those drinks on that beautiful cloth makes me cringe. No food or drinks allowed on mine!

I don't think any of my drunk bastards would show up if that was the case. And it's not like a casino is not prepared for drunk people so I'm not sweating it. The funniest thing though is the area where I double-tap to conclude action is so wore down that the foam is theoretical at this point. And replacing it will be a horrible experience as the green felt above is attached to the wood with about 175.000 staples...

Never thrown any poker felts into the wash, but I've used Resolve carpet/upholstery foam cleaner a couple of times on SSC with great results.

When I installed my custom cloth, I sprayed it with scotchgard after testing a portion outside the playing surface. It makes it easier to wipe clean after each poker night. Wet cloth, and good as new. Mine is also casino grade cloth. It still looks nice after 4 years of usage. I ordered a new custom cloth over this Xmas season, and installed it over the older cloth. I did the scotchgard on it as well. I change the cloth theme seemingly every 4 years. My 1st one is in the closet, likely never to be used again. My previous one will be unveiled again when my hockey team gets to be a cup contender in a 3-4 years.
