I'm planning a Dealers Choice Tourney with the following games:

Nl Holdem
Stud Hi
Razz
Stud Hi/Low
Omaha Hi/Low

all non holdem are played FL. There will be a special rule, it's not allowed to choose the same game in a row, every Hand a new game. And every player cant choose the same game as he has choosen on his last turn.

Do you have any ideas or suggestion to make my tourney better?

If you don't play an orbit of each game, it's impossible to equalize the impact of antes, blinds, and bring-ins for all players.

Plus -- as much as I love stud -- 60% seven card stud might be too much for your players.

That's a lot of rules :)

And no Pineapple :(

Well, at the moment the mojority of them just knows holdem, a bit Stud and a bit Razz.

Replace stud hi with PLO and I think it looks like a damn good time.

I guess, though, why not just make it a HORSE tourney, at that point?

I ran a dealer's choice tournament earlier this year. Twelve different poker variations were placed into three distinct groups (four different games in each): Fixed-Limit, No-Limit, and Pot-Limit. The three groups were played in rotation (ie, L1=FL games, L2=NL games, L3=PL games, L4=FL games, etc.). The tournament structure had ante/bring-in/bets for L1 / L4 / L7 / L10, and small/big blinds for all other levels.

Levels were 20 minutes long, and any game could be picked from the current group, with these caveats: no game could be repeated unless all four games had already been picked during that level, and no game could be selected twice in a row.

Worked like a charm. Several of the games were new to most (if not all) players. Tournament lasted just short of 13 full levels (about 4:15), which was just slightly over the goal of four hours (I suspect that familiarity with the games will shorten the event next time).

The format could easily be modified to handle different games or combinations of limit types (only FL and NL, for example). But imo, the key was placing the various eligible games in equal-sized groups.

^^ FYP. Nothing wrong with playing an orbit of different stud games (Razz, Stud, Stud-7, etc.), or an orbit of different games that use blinds and community cards, for example. Pretty crazy to try and combine ante/bring-in games with games that use blinds, though.

Every year we play a CHOP tournament, Crazy Pinapple, Holdem, Omaha (PL) and Pineapple. We made a dice with these choices on 4 sides and the remaining 2 sides were Dealer's choice. Our players seem to enjoy it and we can run blinds and levels as normal.

.

This.

We do dealer's choice for my cash game and an orbit of each one game is required before choice passes on to the next person.

With the addition of Badugi, that's 6 games. 6 games, 6 sides on a die. Coincidence? You could roll a die to determine the game. That would eliminate a couple of the rules, so you wont have to remember what game everybody chose through the whole orbit.

ooh...i like this.

I mean, as a nerd, I have die that run up to much higher numbers than 6... so that's just room for more games ;-)
