Custom "Pure Clay" Chips (such as Phoenix Card Room) (27 Viewers)

I know about group buys for custom hybrid ceramics, such as the one run monthly by justincarothers. I have samples from that group buy, but I like the friction and texture from my samples of Phoenix Card Room more. I'm just not 100% in love with the edge spots for Phoenix Card Room chips.

The Phoenix Card Room chips are described as "pure clay". Does anyone know of a way to get custom pure clay chips like this? Also, is pure clay similar to China clay, and do pure clay chips have the same durability issues that I have heard about from other China clay chips?

Alternatively, is there a way to get more friction out of custom hybrid ceramics?

I'm unsure if customs are available in this type of chip but maybe Apache Poker Chips could help.

Chinese manufacturers are more than happy to work with you if you want to put the time and effort into it. They will even host you if you want to go over and spend some time with them “improving” their processes. They are always open to new ideas.

The poker store has 1000 chips for $0.54 per chip. Are there Chinese manufacturers willing to work with me on that limited scale? If so which ones?

My understanding is that since these are injection molded, you would need a different mold for each edge spot pattern. That's why outside of what Apache offers, china clay's have the same edge spot pattern for a set.

Having the same edge spot pattern is fine for me, in fact it’s preferred. The only thing I don’t like about the Phoenix Card Room spots is that they aren’t symmetrical: you can have a stack of the same denom where some chips are flipped one way, and other chips are flipped the other way.

Take a look at these then. They are the only china clays I've seen with sharp edges.
