CPC worth the money? (1 Viewer)

My opinion echos many here... I love Paulson chips... but that said, when it comes to what I put into play, it’s my CPC customs that see felt. I have a very nice set of Paulson tourney chips, and I’ve tried to put them into play, but I just keep going back to my custom set...

When I attend meetup events, I’m always more interested in playing with the custom sets that make appearances, even over some rare Paulson sets that show up.

@Jeff has some amazing “house” sets that I look forward to playing at the WCB, and he often gets guest sets I enjoy playing with as well...

Absolutely worth it!

Samples are a must. Colors and edge spot patterns are visual qualities, but the mold definitely affects feel and playability.

Also, there is nothing quite like the exhilaration you feel when opening boxes of your customs and seeing them for the very first time.

@ad119 If you want a custom clay set, CPC is great value.
I like Paulson chips, and yes they are great. I honestly like my CPC set more.
...... I know, blasphemy!

Yes, they're worth it. I'm paying the invoice for this year's commemorative chips for Windy City Blowout 9 tonite. Worth it, but we're going to have to do without hookers and blow unless someone steps up to sponsor.

@Jambine

Instead of doing a totally separate chip, I started creating a commemorative version of chips in my set. This year I am adding a fractional commemorative chips. There were 2 years of $1s, 1 year of $5 and then this year in the frac. I just mix them in with the rest of the set and give one to each attendee who wants one. Next year will be a $10 chip for the 10th meetup. I have a purple and black $10 chip in my set.

@Jambine its quite simple. @Jeff has to keep replenishing, since I’ve been harvesting ever since the second WCB I attended. ;). This year, quarters... woot!

LOL and my thought exactly!
@Jeff thanks for not separating the blue spots with the white. The gradient fade effect is awesome.
....now how do I get to Chicago this summer...

Every one has a diferent opinion.. Get samples...

First,
Do you want a custom set?
Do you want to spend the money on Custom set?
Have you seen the prices for Paulson Chips?
Do yo like Casino Chips?

If you have ansewered YES to all these questions, then start your custom chip project..:D

Now, we cant talk about chips without pics: Soooo, here is my custom.

Samples are important if feel is your main driver. For me it is. Personally, the MD 50s are close enough to Paulsons that I don’t see a difference and I wanted sets that I didn’t have to worry about having the set I wanted. Now with inlay replacement there are other options too.

Personal Preference:

Leaded TH&C Paulsons - 10
MD50 - 9
Non Leaded TH&C Paulsons - 7
Circle Square - 6.5
Horse head - 6

Everybody has talked about customs, but @ad119 cpuld be considering stock chips, for all we know.
Obviously the quality on the stock chips is the same, and they have the advantage of instant gratification.

That rather sums up my position. I've had these a while now, and I just keep going to them.
I love the colors on your green chip BTW

@Jeff - have you you had a chance to check out the jockey mold? I'd put it above RHC mold chips in terms of sound and feel, and pretty darn close to MD-50. It is also the closest visually to a THC chip of the CPC offerings.

I am in the minority. 3 custom asm/cpc sets to base my opinion.
I personally find the feel of minty paulsons and bcc better than asm/cpc.
Complex cpc's are very expensive so as others have said, get samples.
Also, cpc offers several molds and even though the material is the same, they all have subtle changes in feel. From what's i've read, teh diasq mold comes closest to Paulson in feel.
Good luck.

I may be alone here, but my answer is no, they are not worth the $$$$. I have a set of 1000 chips that cost me north of $2.5K. Do I love the set? Hell yes, however $2500 is a shit ton of money.

I have always been a frugal shopper and there is just no other option for custom chips*. So either you pay it, or you don't. If I didn't get a large set of WTHC for average $.75 each, (which I flipped to finance my CPC's) there is zero chance I would have been willing to pay what I did for my customs. So the way I look at it, and justify it to myself, is I paid $.75 for my set. CPC's are just not worth the retail cost to me.

I'm not saying anything bad about the quality of the product or throwing shade in CPC's direction in any way. They are great chips in every aspect, they are just very expensive as well.

***Edit*** - No other option for custom clay chips.

I might be wrong, but at one time ASM/CPC was allowing orders with extra brass...I think.
I'm sure the pros have considered all the available materials but seems like there would be something out there besides lead or brass that would add weight and not be poisonous or overly expensive or drastically change the colors of the chip.
