CPC chips are lead-free and have a more clay-like texture than Polson chips, holding their shape much better over time.
But that's a matter of personal preference. You just need samples.

The most amazing thing about any of these chips are the white ones. White is probably the most difficult color to get clean.

My … ahem … assumption, would be a healthy percent of titanium dioxide with extremely careful conditions at the factory.

They were not melting lead or putting lead metal in these in any way. You’d have to use a very sophisticated chemical regime to convert (reduction) and separate out any lead metal from the compounds they used. Saliva doesn’t make the grade.
My guess: The lead was used in the form of lead carbonate, or white lead - a well known color pigment since ancient times. It would be wrong to assume that only metallic lead can pose a health risk, though. On the contrary: It has been known for centuries that the use of lead white, for example in cosmetics, can cause health issues. Players are much less at risk than factory workers handling lead carbonate powder, of course, but I'd rather not find out how much you have to shuffle chips until the abrasion particles become a health risk.

I used to think there was no difference between the chips either, but there actually is one — though it’s barely noticeable. I think it’s because leaded chips are mostly older and sometimes packed with all sorts of “safety features” you rarely find in modern chips. Maybe it’s just time that makes the material that way, not the lead itself.
Another guess: Lead white was replaced by baryta white (barium sulfate), which in itself could have made the chips feel different, but the process was not as easy as replacing lead carbonate with barium sulfate 1:1. In the end they had to do more adjustments. Perhaps they even took the opportunity to overhaul the formula completely, potentially replacing other ingredients to lower manufacturing costs.

Woah woah.. plain white boxes? No CPC labeled boxes? Ship the package back.

I know. Getting real that they're leaving the Maine factory. They probably didn't order more labels when they ran out.

Quick first impression: If you didn't get a Ewing mold order in, you fucked up.

Really, really nice feeling chips. I absolutely can't wait to start oiling tonight after I'm done with my notes.

Lead and cotton (and other ingredients) are totally unrelated.
Lead used to be present in several ingredients including many of the color dyes.
The manufacturers removed the lead (and other substances) from those ingredients over time. We still use the same ingredients as 35 years ago, they just don't contain any lead.

Couple days too late for @Hornet's meetup.. but will be a fun open when I get home! (3 separate trackings, so hoping it's all sets)

Now to convince my wife to stick around the house today to sign for them...

Once they are fully set up in Washington. Whenever that happens is not for sure. May still be a couple months. Then you get put on the backlog.

Only the Lord knows when it will be and He is already in the queue at position 43 for His custom set.
