Context on Paulson RHC dislike? (1 Viewer)

RHC: no outer ring (aesthetics), flea bites (practical result of no outer ring), too much inlay/not enough clay - more pronounced with gargantuan inlay (or WTF it's called), huge inlays are not relabel-able

In all seriousness, I agree with previous posts. THC is a better mold, and creates a better feel than RHC. RHCs are still Paulsons, and superior to most everything else.
I find the all negativity towards RHCs interesting, considering how much fury Chiproom sales cause on this site. Jim doesn’t seem to have much of an issue moving casino RHCs.

This is a real good comparison.

Notice in the THC version more skin is exposed to mirror the clay exposed in the THC chip.

In the RHC version less skin. Think of the bathing suit as the inlay in the RHC chip. Still very nice but less skin and not quit as good as the other version.

Lol, IHC is so strange to me. I thought I wanted a THC set with an IHC chip for the largest denom until I got a sample set like that and IHC kinda feels okay with just other IHCs but IHCs next to THC I can't handle.

I owned a set of casino used Cleveland Horseshoe chips, which had moderate casino use, and I don’t remember any flea bites.

I think I have a different definition of flea bites than most people - I guess I’m willing to tolerate more than most people. Those chips certainly had small flea-bites, but those don’t really bother me.

The biggest thing that bothers me with RHCs is that they’re not leaded THCs with textured inlays. It’s that simple. If I’m going to be spending a buck a chip or more, I’d rather spend more and have the best, than settle for second best. I only dislike RHCs by way of comparison. If they were all that was out there, I’m sure I’d love them.

Hello everyone, still fairly new to the forum but I have managed to read through enough threads to notice that there seems to be a pretty outspoken dislike for the RHC mold. Is there any context/reason behind this? Is there some history or unspoken issue with the mold I am unaware of?

For me it's the color. I don't buy poker chips cause they have an awesome inlay, I buy them cause they have beautiful colors and spot patterns. RHC means bigger inlay and less color showing. As you might expect I also hate the oversized inlay chips like vineyards and gloria's etc. While hotstamps are my favorite cause its got that full color chip action!

Also don’t like PNY I guess ? I do think it’s a personal preference, I like the bigger inlay theme some chips have , but then again I never handled THC or hotstamps for that matter. I think they do stack better and are less slippery than RHC if there’s more clay to clay contact. I think some RHC are really nice including PNY , Vineyards. Just a personal preference IMO

Due to my dislike of RHC, I only have one RHC set - Bahamias. Despite my dislike of RHC, I do like Vineyards, and probably a couple other sets that are more sought after (read: expensive) than dozens of THC sets that I have or could have. This makes the whole process kind of ridiculous for people who aren't into RHC. Because there are people into RHC, the rest of us don't pursue the sets that could be perceived as "overpriced" when there are more attractive options at a lower price.

But as others have suggested...that could be Paulson's "accelerated wear and replacement plan" at work....

I have no idea and have no reason to claim this could be true, but I would venture a guess that perhaps the manufacturing efficiencies are better for RHC versus THC? Would assume that they are focused on making them as cost effectively as possible.

Planned obsolescence. RHC wear down and damage faster under 24/7 use in a casino, so require regular (or at least predictable) replacement, which means repeat business.
