It seems like there's a little traction in the Taj thread about a community designed cash and tournament set using Sun Fly hybrids. I, personally, have no idea how to get such a massive project off the ground. But I thought maybe we could at least explore the ideas here?

I'd be interested. Just to clarify the Sun Fly Hybrid is a Ceramic Chip w. a Labeled Inlay? So do they feel like the Chipcos used to? I have a 1000 set of Chipco Egyptians already, so I'm plenty familiar with that set.

Yeah that's right, I've been looking at doing some custom chips with them and I've been really impressed with the look and feel.

I think we could drum up more interest in this if we had a design. What's the cost going to be to work out a design? We can get a few folks interested in paying for the design up front and then we can recoup that cost from the overall group buy if it goes down. If it doesn't go down, then the people who fronted lose a few bucks. But how much would we need to get started?

The next question would then be whether or not to try SunFly direct, or use OldWest. It seems like the cost difference could be up to .25-.30 per chip, but they would handle all of the administrative tasks, which certainly has a value.

So, the questions are:
1) How much do we need up front to do the design work?
2) Who would we want to order from?
3) What size chip?

Safest way to do a large, community friendly project like this is to pick an old Casino that will offer a little authenticity.

Sure, but it would have to be really old and to have all of it's trademarks expired right? They haven't said so, but I get the feeling that was a portion of the issue w/ the cancelled group buys.

Sure. You just wait a minimum of 75 years after the principals die until the copyrights expire. Easy-peasy.

And you hope that whatever expired actually looks cool, cause I looked around for defunct casinos yesterday, and it's a lot Text on their chips.
