Colorado Belle in Laughlin, Nevada Closing (1 Viewer)

Sorry to hear :(

@navels the chips are THC's. Anyone know if they had secondaries?

My bad, its a Nevada casino, thought it was in California at first glance. Chips will probably go into the abyss :(

Sigh. Nevada rules - they get destroyed. And I've never played there, but I've admired that THC rack - I think it's long since been replaced with plastic or something.

They are Nevada and last I knew, they are Bud Jones CIC. Maybe they'll be tossed in the river.

The really vintage THCs were sly. I played there a fair amount between 2003 and 2012ish. BJ CIC that whole time.

I loved playing craps there. The min bet was either $1 or $3, which I appreciated at the time. The players were fun. Good times!

Unfortunately, I get the feeling that this is one of several of the smaller casinos that will not survive this Covid nightmare. ☹
I'm guessing it will end up being a hell of a lot more than several.

That sucks, gets me in the feels a little. I’m not sure I’ve ever even played there since I’ve been an adult but that little town and a few casinos are burned into my memories.

My grandpa had a construction company and they built a TON of houses in bullhead city in the mid 80s-early 90s so they were always staying in Laughlin. That and my family has always had the gambling bug so I can remember a lot of trips up to Laughlin when I was growing up. The breakfast at Colorado belle, Ivan Ironman Stewart’s stadium truck game at the Harrahs arcade, and taking the boat out on the river with myfamily will forever be etched into my mind as heaven to an 8 year old me.

Very sad to see just one more physical piece of my childhood fall. And also for no new chips coming to the market (damn you Nevada gaming commission).

...or a storage unit. :whistling:

Or a big hole...

Before I was 21 I liked to go to vegas/laughlin and stay for cheap and sneak slot pulls. Before my first trip to Lauglin (1993) I had heard about the Colorado Belle but not by name, only by description. So I found a phone number, and made a reservation. When I showed up, they had no idea who I was and the hotel was full. Turns out I made the reservation at the Riverboat casino in Las Vegas. The folks at the Colorado Belle called the Riverboat, explained the situation got my reservation cancelled there and found me a room. It was pretty awesome and my first experience with the incredible customer service that can surround the casino industry.

Designing the inlay in 1980...

(to the designer): Here's a list of must-haves:
  • It must have the casino logo in black... its okay if all the horizontal lines make it look like a blob when printed at the size of the inlay. Also, by black, I mean black-ish. Dark gray okay too.
  • It must have a red demon, large enough to read. If necessary, you can overlap it with the logo so that neither is readable, but at least one-third of the denom should be unobstructed.
  • I want a shaped inlay, but don't reduce the other design elements to address the smaller footprint if the shaped-inlay... Just cut off whatever doesn't fit.

At least they were consistent across all chips in the set.

Some nice color/spot combos in that lineup though. And executed properly, those design elements could have been pretty spectacular.

(sigh) One more barrel of chips transition from BOLO to BORDO. Luckily I've already got their replacement so my set still numbers 50.

I just had a thought. If Nevada casinos start going out of business, my BOLO collection will be devastated. On the bright side, that means I can collect replacements.
