Maybe a gentle cycle (the one for China) and turning the heated dry off could work??
A sacrificial plastic item with these settings before trying the racks as an option and experiment might shed some light.
The dishwasher is a horrible environment for pretty much anything, including some dishes. That said, I have a friend who has no problems running his grandmother's silver flatware in the dishwasher (it's in the 'daily use' rotation at their house ) and I have also successfully cooked salmon in the dishwasher for a dinner party:
I've washed them in the dishwasher with no problems. Top rack worked fine. We have plastic kid bowls that are thinner than the racks and they survived the bottom rack of the washer.
