We play in a nearly weekly game. Dawson hosts in his basement. Most people leave a little for the host when cashing out, so I'm guessing that covers cards and other expenses. He provides water, but collects money for sodas and snacks ($1), beers ($2), mixed drinks ($3) etc.

Last year we chipped in and bought him a topper for his Barrington table.

What are some other good ideas for a Christmas gift we can all chip in on? Personalized cut cards came to mind, but that's pretty small.

He's a whiskey and coke drinker, not really a whiskey drinker.

I don't think that's on his radar. I would love it, but then he'd have to provide the dogs and clean up.

I didn't mean for him. I'm a host. I thought you were asking about what to get me

Potentially troublesome ideas first:

An office water cooler could be solid as well, but that's a kinda more invasive purchase, I'd check with a host before putting on them the responsibility for maintaining a water cooler, allowing/cleaning hot dogs, etc.

Doing alcohol could be a weird interaction since it might be hey here's a gift for you and then......we're paying to have some. Will he feel obligated to share for free? Will a player be annoyed at paying to drink what he already paid for in gift form, etc.

Other Options:

The other option if he likes cool little things, would be a Dawson's set of.....everything. Gorgeous oversized DB, dice sticks from LeGold, dope metal cut cards from Potsie, 3d printed stuff, game selection cards, etc.

Customized Tina set would be pretty dope, if you know his likes/interests enough.

Dependent on his setup/room/what he already has, a mini fridge might be fantastic.

Some custom rocks glasses, too. I like this idea.

I'd appreciate both the thought/gesture from the players as well as the actual functional/usability.

And this can scale with however much or little you want to spend. That is probably the one thing I like about this site, is the amount of vendors that can supply *everything*. Dependent on how big you want to go, it'd be amazing if everyone showed up in their "DWHG" (Dawson's Weekly Home Game) swag, custom hats/shirts/sweatshirts from jeepology and a shirt and hat for him.

While generally great ideas, I agree with you as posted above, I'd run from anything hotdog roller or liqour related. Too much potential trouble.

For anyone wanting to go potentially HUGE with presents for hosts of big/fun games, the top 2 things I'd go with would be a custom, powdercoated safe for chips/money/etc. Looks like concrete basement there, which is the best location for a safe to be bolted down. Other option for someone who charges for goodies, a food/drink vending machine. Super easy to operate, and can get a great one from like a SamsClub/Costco brand for only $4k (can find much cheaper used ones everywhere)

Other idea would be if he's that dude on the left with that oversized cat sitting on his lap, he likely digs that ball of fluff.

Mayyyyybe go the route of some customization poker/chipping items based around the pup?

That's his ex-girlfriend's dog. :ROFLMAO:

More options, if you want to be funny/jokey. Can go with customized Dawson's gear/chips/glassware, but then for the game that you decide to bring the gifts to, have everyone show up masked up as different Dawson's Creek characters. Could even grab a lifesized cutout.

Wood racks, beer fridge, kegerator, popcorn machine (if you want butter all over)

If he’s spending his own money on cards, you could always buy a brick of cards for the game then add on the custom cut cards for the personalized touch.

If he's collecting money for soda and snacks, and only water is free (just like on Ryanair flights) AND you 've already bought him a table topper, your biggest present imagineable for the rest of his life would be your presence there...
